The suspicious item found near a statue at Second and Main streets appears not to be an explosive after it was detonated by the Fort McCoy Explosive Ordnance Demolition Team about 12:20 p.m., La Crosse police said.
Two city park and recreation employees found the 5-inch cylinder object with a magnet attached about 10:15 a.m. The pieces will be sent to the State Crime Lab in Madison for analysis.
This is the update online from the LaCrosse Tribune today. Wonder if someone had tried to place a cache? Not us. Anyone wanna claim this one? 😈
This is very similar to what happened in Portland, ME., that lead to a general geocaching ban in the city. Please remember to clearly label your hides, especially urban ones, as geocaching game pieces.
I don’t know if this was indeed a cache being hidden or not, but the description of the object seemed similar to some containers we’ve encountered.
The evening news said they had to close down a part of downtown while they checked it all out. These issues, along with those mentioned in another thread on damage to an area as a result of caching, are reminders that with our fun we have responsibility, too.
As in all of life, really.
