would you cache with a stranger?

When I first started geocaching I was going to Redondo Beach, CA for a workshop. I knew I would have a problem trying to find my way around the area, much less find a geocache, so I looked at the cache pages from the area and contacted 8 people who had recently cached there. 4 got back to me, 3 took me geocaching. I had a great time and saw a lot more of the area than I would have if I had went alone. If you feel more comfortable you could see if there where an other local geocacher that would be willing to go with you – two of the people I went with brought along other geocachers (one was a guy and he brought along a couple female geocachers because he felt I would be more comfortable). I still have e-mail contact with these people and they all want to know when I am coming back. I kind of looked at it this way; people meet each other after meeting on-line for dating more and more these days – I think it would be a lot safer to meet someone for geocaching. At least the expectations would be different 😀 . I hope you have a great time on your trip!!!

You might try looking at his geocaching profile to see if he has attended any event caches. You could contact others that attended the same event and have met him. Maybe get a “reference” or two.

I have never been creeped out by any cacher I’ve met….but I have been creeped out by muggles. So…….for an opportunity to cache in a unique area which might have creepy muggles in it. I’d go for it. AND I like the suggestions for checking out the situation first. PQ
