Doesnt matter, I like caching every day of the week, every part of the year, and would dp so if things like work and home maintenance didnt get in the way.

The big advantage of summer is longer days. I like to start in the early morning just as the sun comes up when it is still cool, and gradually notice the changes in the weather/light as the day goes on. It is real nice to see the temp change, notice changes in the breeze, changes in cloudy/sunny. And of course the best time of the day is the last one of the day, just before the sun goes down.

The honest to goodness truth there… I for one must not have ate enough carrots growing up as I have a real hard time geocaching at night and having these longs days allows me and my son to get out after supper and find a few before dark.

You adapt to caching in the winter by researching and making sure to hunt those that will be findable with the snow cover. However, I’m a summer kind of person, even with all the skeeters.

Since we started there is not a calendar month that we have not cached. There are good things and bad things about each season. We enjoy snowshoeing in the winter, dislike the gournd hides. We love getting out the canoe in the summer, or going on nice long hikes… don’t like the bugs, nettles, thorns and heat but have found that mosquito jackets, breezy mornings and staying near Lake Superior seems to keep them at bay. Really think that fall is the very favorite… when the colors are at peak and the bug count is low.

My very first geocache was found on a winter day following an ice storm. So I have some definite love for winter caching. I can remember going back to a cache location 3 or 4 times trying to find it. Dug the snow everywhere. Finally came back in the spring to find it, but the search was quite fun during the winter!

Actually, the main problem I have with winter caching is not the weather but the fact that the days are so short.

That’s the problem with winter, period. Since mid-July we have been losing two minutes of daylight each day, and now it’s up to three. 😥

    But I digress.

We started caching last fall (mid-October), and we had a perfect month or so to go out a couple of days a weeks and get the hang of geocaching. We really would have hated to start in December of 2007!

Didn’t go out too much in the deep snow, but we had some adventures that were memorable. Back roads are worse in the winter, snow piles make parking difficult, and we don’t like to go out when bad weather is predicted. The other half of sandlanders hates winter caching, but he went out with me anyway.

We’re finding more caches in the summer and going for more at a time, too. We also go farther for a cache trip. At so many of our post-snow finds we’ve said, “Sure glad we didn’t look for this one in the winter!”

But let’s hope last winter was an aberration and we can get out more.

Hated the sogginess and the ticks of the spring, but it felt good to go out more. Guess I vote for fall.

I was surprised to find out that I actually enjoy caching in the winter. Not my favorite time to cache, but fun anyway. I don’t mind caching in the dark. Some of our favorite finds have been after dark.
I have to agree that late summer until the snow flies is my favorite time of the year for caching.
Hmmm. We only found six caches in December. I guess we don’t like caching in December.

I thought this was going to be like that game: Would you rather bushwack 0.5 miles through a mosquitoe infested swamp on a 90 degree day or would you rather look for a micro cache with bad coordinates somewhere in a grove of juniper bushes next to a busy road? 😉

Really all seasons have their good and bad points – most of which have already been expressed. I love fall the best myself.

Hunting caches in the winter makes it easier to follow Cachelovsky’s footprints on our way to be STF… 😆

August to November have been our best months, but the other months have been good too.

Can you feel the love? Thank you to everyone for their insight into this…

It is very interesting…I didn’t realize that there are so many people who cache all day long 😀

Fall is my favorite caching season, followed closely by winter, then spring, and lastly summer.

Cold does not bother me in the least, I love it. I love having the parks to myself. I love the beauty of freshly fallen snow. Not to mention the opportunity to score some island caches without hassle. 😀

YEP! Greyhounder and I were finally able to cross a couple close ones off our list this way.
