Good to hear from you Opossum! (and I pronounce your name with the “O” — I hope you don’t mind!) I’m so glad you’re enjoying geocaching, and are learning all about it along the way. You’ll find lots of help from the WGA!!

Now, back to work for me!

Ok, so maybe I SHOULD have drank the Kool-Aid that everyone else did, because obviously I’m very dense.
I guess I just don’t see the purpose and how you are paying the bills, unless you point is that you are working FOR Jeremy et. al. at Geocaching.com. In that instance, you bring up some great points and having a rating service is a great idea that has been tossed around before with no follow up.

But if you are just some freelancer who likes to write logs for entertainment value, I guess I’d rather make my own memory of the cache and chastise the “lame” cache in private.

Whatever floats your duck, dude. Have fun.

I’m not critizing anybody or anything … but this whole thing has me confused too … the only thing that would make this make sense, would be if all of sudden this “not for profit” service, suddendly bursts forth with something similar to the Jeep Travel Bugs, but maybe from some maker of orange hunting vests or something.

(Laughing) No, you can’t send the Bog Dog for training–I left that profession years ago and only train my own dogs now, who also enjoy making a mess of themselves, much to my dismay.

The member-only service I write for requires a paid subscription to access their private pages on their private sites, which is why I don’t mention how to subscribe or publish a link here, as that’s not relevant to geocaching. (I’d also have to get permission, run it through advertising, compliance, etc.)

Several websites to link to their author’s home pages, in whole or in part, for various internal reasons. If that author’s interests (commonly referred to as a BLOG) keep enough readers subscribed, everyone wins. (See Bonnie Burton’s topics on http://www.grrl.com for an extreme example.) I don’t hope or want to be as popular as Bonnie, and it’s very safe to say at this time a snowball has a better chance of surviving in a very hot climate than I have of becoming this popular, or even close.

In some cases a publisher decides it’s in their best interest to have “real people” that readers can love, hate, identify with, blah blah blah blah blah. There’s a theory the pages need to be freely accessible through their portal, or whatever. The author retains the right to the….and more marketing stuff.

The bottom line is you get to see this for free, I get paid for it, the dogs and I have a fun time. If you enjoy it, great, if not, don’t waste your time on it, or at least tell me how to make it better. I had a darn hard time finding some of your references, so you must actually be reading the postings intently.

Personally, I’d be happy if you enjoyed reading and had a good time, which is why I include my e-mail address, Yahoo! Messenger link, etc. It takes a lot of time to respond to everyone, and I don’t get paid for it.

So anyway, a lot of things were updated today, including the Travel Bug tags. (You might need to hit the REFRESH button on your browser to see the changes.) Some of it was already in the works thanks to prior e-mail feedback, and some additional things were hopefully improved from this forum post.

    Happy caching,
    Opossum

    OK, I think I get it…

You get paid to write for an online paid membership site. As a way for the customers (readers) to get to know the authors, they link to your home page. Your home page includes your blog and related activities, which can reflect postively or negatively toward your members at the site where you write. Therfore since a=b, and b=c; c must = a.

Cool! I’d be intersted to know the site for which you write. If you can’t mention it here, could you shoot me an email at geopink at wi-geocaching dit com.

Thanks for joining us, See you on the trails.

Now if I can only think of a new “tricky” cache that some how uses this all. I think I’ll call it “The Oposum Circle … What’s your Arcangl?”.

Please: No questions – I don’t understand me either. No hate mail – I have co-workers for that.

Come on people! Since before any of you posters began geocaching (Brian and Miata the exceptions) there was the provision to scramble comments and spoilers AND the warning that pictures may be spoilers. The fact that this person posted their thoughts on a seperate site is to be commended. Don’t be so insecure and thin skinned that you can’t handle something as minor as this!
