One of our caches is not where it’s supposed to be. It seems to have floated downriver a few miles, where a non-cacher found it, figured out what it was, re-hid it in a handy spot and described the new location with enough hints to make it possible to recover it. I’m thinking of keeping this cache active in case some other CRAZY cacher wants a REAL challenge and decides they want to try and find it without ANY coordinates. I’ve copied the email sent by the non-cacher and posted my thoughts on this dilemma on the cache page for GCK8WA-Launching at Hatch Landing. Give me suggestions please. Thanks!

The ‘Moses’ approach of recruiting cachers.
Some thoughts…
- If you keep it alive, the special information should not be in a log but on the cache page itself. If nothing else, you should highlight the fact that the cache is not at the listed coordinates.
- If you keep it alive, special equipment would now be needed to retrieve.
- But, the new location hasn’t gone through the validation process. Is the new location private, yadda, yadda, yadda?
- You can’t maintain it, so until someone can … wait do I hear a bugle playing taps.
- Bottom line, place a new cache box at the old location and remember you have some garbage to pickup downriver.
I plan to be in this area the week of July 11th, and would be willing to attempt a recovery. Lots of factors unknown to me- i.e. local put-in/take-out, river current low enough to paddle both directions?, etc.
I’ve been meaning to hunt some of your caches anyway.
Thanks for the offer Cathunter! I’ve made a map of the area where it is said to be, go here to look (http://homepage.mac.com/amacoy/geocache/hatch2.jpg)
You could launch at Flater’s Resort or you could launch from Hatch Landing, where our cache was, about 4 miles upstream. We have had a lot of rain lately, I think the river is high.
I, Crazy4 team leader, have additional information and have added it to our missing caches’ page at GCK8WA-Launching at Hatch Landing. The game’s afoot! Lay on, McDuff! Never give up, never surrender!
