Ok, I’m really not sure what to do with this one. I could really use some advice. I was caching in West Bend today to finish up unfound caches from last weekend’s event and other older caches. One cache (not from the event) I found was in the open. Not a big deal as it was only a couple of feet from it’s hiding place. Possibly moved from a squirel or ‘coon or something. Anyway, when I opened it up, I found a really cool TB. At least to me or most likely any other male, especially a boy. It turned out to be a fairly large Swiss Army type knife with 12 tools. I know that knives are one of the no-nos to place in a cache. So, what do I do with it now. I don’t want to mention the cache or the TB owner, but I will say that the TB owner lives very near to L. Winnebago. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I’d contact the owner and see what they want you to do with it….it cannot be placed in a cache.
I would say its not a big deal and move the travel bug on to the next cache. That rule is more guideline so every cache doesn’t end up a weapons dump.
I’ve found a few caches deep in the woods that always seems to get Swiss Army Knives as some of the swag, I figure they are remote locations and it could come in handy in an emergency.
My cache Rubens Cave(GCNVC1) always ends up with knives and beer in the cache, I remove it and they always end up back in a few months. some of this “off limits” swag probably isn’t being left by cachers but people who also visit this location via canoe and stumble onto the cache and don’t know any better.
I’d call it a muti-tool that just might have a knife blade in it. I’d say a muti-tool would be kind neat to fun. A big old Buck knife would be cool too to find. I’d say if it’s remote cache where kids are not going to find it and it’s more of an adult type of cache it would be fine to leave it. It better to find that than an old golf ball, a “I was here card” or a McToy.
