Wisconsin Legislature established the Rustic Roads program in 1973 to preserve what remains of Wisconsin’s scenic, lightly traveled roads. Last August, I placed the first in a series of caches with the intent to spotlight these roads. Since then I have added 18 more caches to the series. All of these hides are within the right of way, and usually nearby a particularly scenic area. My goal has been for each of the 108 roads in the state have a cache connected to this series, but the reality is that there are only about 3 or 4 more roads in my area that I could realistically maintain myself. So, I am calling out to fellow cachers from around the state to join in the WRR series. How can you help? I’m glad you asked…
1. If you have an existing geocache within 100 feet or less off a official Rustic Road, would you consider adding the designation “WRR #” so it could be included in the series? Ideally the focus of the cache would be either a natural or manmade feature along the road and the road itself. (see linked map to determine the roads in your area)
2. Place a new cache along an official Rustic Road that currently does not have a WRR cache already associated with it and include the designation “WRR #” to start the name.
If you are willing to be a part of the effort to highlight these wonderful roads in your area and help complete this series, your assistance would be greatly appreciated! (And if you’ve never been down a Rustic Road, I strongly encourage you to get out and explore a few.) Let me know in this Forum or via PM if you would like to participate so we can coordinate efforts.

You already filled my area! sounds like a terrific series, and sounds like a challenge cache when all 108 are placed 😈

05/13/2010 at 11:33 pm #1928988I can place one on the rustic road out here by me at Stout.
05/13/2010 at 11:41 pm #1928989We live on a rustic road and there’s another about a mile away. Never thought about putting a cache here, but we’ll take a look and see what places might be available. We’d be glad to place one if there’s a good spot.
05/14/2010 at 1:04 am #1928990I can place one along Rustic Road 16 – Manitowoc County.
05/14/2010 at 2:58 am #1928991I am pretty sure this is a rustic road cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=0101d748-f759-4d2a-ae3f-5bc5f5115c57
I will check and conform before putting the WRR on the page.05/14/2010 at 3:26 am #1928992Cool. Back when locationless caches were in vogue (and still allowed to be listed on geocaching.com), I created GC3B84 for people to log their visits.
05/14/2010 at 12:34 pm #1928993Pete – Shhhh… Don’t give away my secret. 😉
ZB – Cool. Would that be WRR 89?
Capt & Mate – Just let me know which ones. I know there are a bunch down by you.
Mizfit – WRR 16 was one of the last in my “area” to do, but I’d be happy to have someone else do it because I don’t get that far of Manitowoc that often. Should be a few good spots to choose from along that long road.
rcflyer – Yes, your cache on Dyreson Road is WRR 20. Let me know when you edit it and I’ll add it to the list. Thanks!
kbraband – I love that one! It’s a shame they don’t still allow those.05/14/2010 at 1:47 pm #1928994GCXQ2W would qualify for WRR 56 but I dont think the owner reads these forums.

Looks like it’s been a few months since they logged in too. Somebody could always try to contact the Uncle listed on the cache. It does have his phone number after all.

I have placed the cache and am awaiting publication of the cache.
05/14/2010 at 8:41 pm #1928998We could do R11, R12, and R36. All are within a couple of miles of our house. Mate’s on a road trip this weekend, but when she gets back we’ll get to work on it.
05/15/2010 at 11:46 pm #1928999I’ve also placed one along WRR 107 today I’ll do the write up in the coming days.
05/17/2010 at 2:38 am #1929000I can take care quite a few if you want. I even have containers ready to go. I can do RR#’s -2,5,25,30,42,37,43, and 85. All are within 10 miles of home and half are within 5! I’ll start em tomorrow and send you a link.
