Well, no one said that there would be a final challenge, but it was suggested. Maybe by the time these all get placed and everyone finds them, WhereIGo will be quite common. Look at paperless now.
So no WhereIGo WRR tours to your area then? 🙁 You’re going to need something to do when retirement eventually comes… Thought you could conduct a few. 😉
06/04/2010 at 12:35 pm #19290921. The primary goal of this project was to populate Wisconsin’s Rustic Roads with at least one cache to promote the designation and encourage visitation. A WIG does fit that goal.
2. While there COULD BE some sort of “Challenge” associated with this series SOMEDAY, there are ways around the “I can’t do a WIG.” issue based on how the requirements for a hypothetical Challenge cache could be written or by being able to borrow a GPSr (or a person with a GPSr) that can do them.
If T&B thinks that a WIG is the best way to highlight the road (which is primarily residential if I’m reading a map correctly), then I’d say go for it.
06/04/2010 at 12:57 pm #1929093I can accomplish the same thing with a multi. It will require more permission hoops to place the waypoint containers, is all. It is completely residential, which is part of the reason I’d rather have tried a WIG, so that a person can stand on the sidewalk, look at the historic homes for the needed info, and move on. Searching on the properties will just look weird, and even if I make the hides really, really easy, people will still be poking around. There is a nice location that suits the theme, away from the residential area and I’m sure I’d be able to get permission to hide the cache at that site. I could just drop a bison somewhere on a sign, but that’s generally not our style, and the intent of the WRR would not really be highlighted that way.
Challenge caches these days can’t require you to complete all of the caches on your “list.” You can ask for about half to be found, but the element of choice is the key.
I’ve got a couple I’m putting out sooner or later and have talked with the reviewers about how to do this. No more “Hungry” type caches are allowed.

I was just explaining that same issue for WRR 40 with someone. My thought about a way around it was to make it a puzzle multi. “Visit the waypoints along the road to get the info for a final placed elsewhere.” Sandlanders did something similar on a RR in their area and it works well.

That’s one of the reasons I’m not saying there will officially be a challenge cache for this. I have some ideas for ways to make it work though.

Well, bummer. But we’re going to look for as many of them as we can! Discovered new RRs just placing the ones recently. They are so cool to travel down!

The WhereIGo in Berlin is a good way to showcase all the old houses and historic spots there. But we joined a “BAG” on that one! 😉
06/04/2010 at 2:32 pm #1929097The “BAG” was a little more conspicuous, but then again, Berlintes are a little strange anyway 😆
*I’m a Berlinite born and raised btw 😀

We scouted out RR 55 in Vernon County this evening. We’ll see what we can do there, it’s a beautiful stretch, crossing the Kickapoo near its eastern terminus. We actually stopped to look at a possibility, but without knowing for sure the property lines, figured we’d better do some more research first, though in reviewing the thread, looks like The Balks will get this one. They’re closer, anyway.
I do really want to do the one in West Salem too, only as a WhereIGo. That particular road really lends itself well to a tour type cartridge, as its rustic significance is defined by historic locales. No, our house is not one of them!
I’d be willing to accept any and all help in trying to figure out how to begin with a WhereIGo. That website is not geared for technophobes such as myself.
After doing a little research on Whereigo caches, we rethought our position on this one. They do sound kind of cool, although we’re still not equipped to get involved with them and probably won’t be for some time. Having one in the WRR series could have some interesting possibilities, however.
06/04/2010 at 6:35 pm #1929099I just submitted Road 10.

If you have any progress on any of these caches, please continue to post the GC# of the published cache in this forum and I’ll get everything updated upon my return.
Thanks everyone!
