Gram & I have an older Legend that came with a serial cable for downloading caches. No serial connectors on computers any more… Anybody have a usb cable for this GPSr that you’d like to unload? I can find them new on eBay & Amazon, but thought I’d check here first for a better bargain!
Thanks, Cheap ole Chris & Jim
05/14/2013 at 1:47 am #1970331I have a Legend and it uses a standard mini-usb plug. I’ve picked up a number of these standard cables over the years from various “appliances”. I’ve also bought a couple at the local dollar store for $1 each. Thinking this might be a quick score at the local dollar store for you if this is the type of cable you’re looking for.
I know the Garmin OEM version of the cable comes with the noise reducer built into it, but I’ve never had a problem with the off the shelf usb cables.
05/14/2013 at 3:07 am #1970332This is an older one that does not work with the standard usb cables. It has a flat 4-contact plug about 1/2″ wide with a small locator prong. The GPS works good, but we’d like to download coordinates sometimes rather than manually programming.
05/14/2013 at 1:02 pm #1970333I think I have an extra one. You will still need a USB to 9 pin adapter. I picked one up off the internet a few years ago for just a few dollars.
Poke me in a couple days if you do not hear from me.
05/14/2013 at 1:32 pm #1970334I have the same thing and had to pick up the serial to USB adaptor when I first got the GPS. Works just fine.

Let me know if you are still interested and we can work out the details. you can contact me through my gc.com profile gkrone.[/url]
05/19/2013 at 11:51 pm #1970336Thanks, gkrone. The interface cable you show looks like the one I have. But by the sounds of it, I think I’ll try to go with the usb-serial adapter to add to my cable, rather than start over with an actual usb cable for my Legend.
I appreciate all of your comments and experiences, friends. I had to get out the old Legend we’ve had since starting geocaching. The last several years I’ve had access to a GPSr from work that has a few more features. But that is not available any more, so we move forward by going back to the beginning with technology!
cYa, Jim & Chris
