I have started to update the Yellowstone Trail series, and want to let folks know that a few of the caches in that series will be moved over the next several months. During the life of the original Yellowstone Trail, the route changed from year to year, depending on road conditions, and on political decisions with the towns that wanted the trail to run thru their town, so it seems to me to be appropriate to modify the trail on an annual basis.
I have already moved the caches in Roberts, Cadott, Thorp, Boyd, Spencer, Auburndale, Amherst, and Amherst Junction. In addition, there is a new one in Addison, where the road has been renamed the Yellowstone Trail. I am generally moving the ones that have been muggled, have a high muggle risk, or where volunteer trails give away the cache location. Most of the caches in the series will stay the same, with about only 20% being moved, I would guess.
I am revisiting all of them, updating the swag as necessary and checking on the log book. You can tell which ones have been updated by the name change. Those which have not yet been updated have the name format of Yellowstone Trail: This Town’s thing to see. Those which have been updated have a modified name, in this format: This Town’s thing to see ON THE Yellowstone Trail. This change was made to accomadate smartnames on cachemate.
In most cases of the ones moved, the first waypoint will likely be the same. Those who found last year’s version, should feel free to hunt this year’s , even if the first waypoint may be the same, since the final will be a totally new hide.
Thanks a lot,
zuma

Thanks for the link. Very interesting. While in Indiana, I happened onto a piece of the Yellowstone Trail while on the way back from Midwest Geobash, so that was cool…..It would be fun to follow the entire trail.
In Illinois and Iowa, the Lincoln Highway has a few markings left, and like the Yellowstone Trail, a few communities highlight the trail in their town, while most do not.

02/05/2008 at 2:01 pm #1765367This sounds great – thanks again for all the work on this series! Your Hammond’s Old Hotel on the Yellowstone Trail cache was the very first cache we visited (with brother Snoopy007) and got us started out right with this caching thing. Look forward to seeking out a few more. 🙂
