Trying to get the whole opencaching.us debate back “On Topic” by going to this older post instead of Glorkar’s post. Glorkar’s was simply an announcement of new caches, but it’s turned into a continuation of this thread.

My point (and only my lowly opinion) is that perhaps the WGA may want to take an official position on opencaching.us After following the other thread it appears that the “reviewer” topic is something near to the hearts of promoting geocaching as a sport and perhaps something that may tip the membership as a whole one way or the other.

My personal opinion is that I’m a little concerned about the WGA logo appearing on opencaching.us as it may appear we are supporting this as an organization. I know the logo says “Placed by a member …”, but there’s always the “association” factor to deal with. If having caches reviewed is important to the WGA membership as a whole then this is our opportunity to speak our voice and ask the board to followup as appropriate.

I also wonder if the reviewers will look at opencaching.us when looking for proximity issues because the rules don’t specify if the 528′ rule applies to only geocaching.com listed geocaches or all geocaches (of which I’d assume opencaching.us geocaches would qualify).

I’m just throwing this out for discussion to see if anyone has an opinion one way or another. Comments???????

I’d like to think that the members of the WGA that choose to use opencaching would be responsible enough to not place anything controversial. If we care enough about the sport/hobby to join an organization like this, we (in theory) would not want to do anything to endanger our pasttime.
In the meantime, I have removed the logo from my caches on opencaching.us as well as geocaching.com.

I wouldn’t think that they would have to. I’m pretty sure they don’t have to check for navicaches, terracaches or even letterboxes (not hybrids.) Why would opencaches be any different? Though not recommended, there could be one of each piled up in the same spot.
