Mr. Greenthumb commented on one of my pictures on Facebook saying that GC7B8F was his favorite Wisconsin Virtual.  We just visited it yesterday and it was a cool bit of WI history.

These Virtual Caches are getting more and more rare since they can’t be created any more.  I haven’t decided yet which one is my favorite in Wisconsin but probably GC8E5E or GCGAXY.  What is yours and why?

When I went to check on which virtuals we had found in Wisconsin, I was surprised that we hadn’t marked any as our favorites.  We always seek out virtuals in our travels around the state, and some we have enjoyed, but many are really quite… lame.  Some are also kind of confusing as to what the seeker is supposed to do to get credit.  I think some people give them favorite points because they are old and might disappear, and also because no new ones are being placed, but the virtuals on our favorites list are all from our travels elsewhere.

Our first three cache finds ever were traditionals, but the next four were virtuals, thanks to The Lil Otter seeking out neat things to show us in our part of the state.  We still have quite a few to find in Wisconsin, but we just happened to have revisited the site of one virtual four days ago, the man-made waterfalls right in downtown Montello on Highways 22 and 23, “Don’t Get Wet!” (GC8BAF)  Here is a photo I took there:

I loved the “Witches House” in Fox Point, probably sadly at risk of disappearing.  I had read a biography of Mary Nohl sometime before we actually visited the site.  Trekkin’ dropped me off so I could take a little time to peek through the fence and marvel at creativity unleashed.  There is also one along Lake Geneva which is a long walk. I took a break from the storytelling conference being held nearby on a spring morning.  It was a wonderful walk and interesting to see how different landowners managed their strip of passageways along the lake.

How could I have forgotten this one?  Great sightseeing tour of Manitowoc and a bit of history well remembered from my youth.

We’ve found all of the Wisconsin virtuals over the years and sometimes memory lapses occur.

We have also found all of Wisconsin’s virtuals and it is hard to pick a favorite.  I think it would be among these:

            GC3244, GC8BAF, GC47c6 or GC8E5D

Ah, those are all good ones too!

I liked all the ones listed. Haven’t found Dickyville Grotto and DNFed Moscow…
One that keeps coming back to mind is GCBC4D Double Amputee Cache because it’s just so… funny!
GC9429 Chauteau on the Emmons kept us hanging around for a while looking at all the weirdness.

GC8E5D Cemented in History is possibly my favorite.  We’re working on finding all 87 active WI virtuals for the WISCONSIN VIRTUAL CHALLENGE (GC2T5CD), not sure how many more we have to go but I think it’s less than 10.  Also working on the CHALLENGE OF THE CENTURY (GC1QAAD), in which one needs to have found at least 100 virtuals from any location.  We have 3 more to go to qualify.

                I am humbled.

I just checked.  Out of 86 active Wisconsin virtuals currently remaining, we still have 38 to go.  I’d use the embarrassed smiley face but I don’t see a smiley chart on the webpage.

Well, if you want to feel better about your stats; I have only found 32 of the 86.

That is probably my favorite too. Who would’a thunk that would be right off of Highway 13 in the middle of the Northwoods? I do want to get to the virtual at Hyde’s Mill soon too, as it is only ~45 minutes away from our house.

Last weekend we visited GC8C0C and loved it!  I think that we spent about 45 minutes and could have stayed much longer.  It was a beautiful place to honor those who have fallen in service.

No great scenery or story, but we found World Wide Quarters GC229B before we discovered geocaching. I was “into” confluence points first, but never had the opportunity to find more than that one before caching was invented.

We just found this one a few weeks ago and I would have to echo your sentiment.  It really was funny!
