All this talk of numbers and micros in urban environments and caching in terraces and private vs. public property.
I looked for a geocache this weekend (believe it or not). Thought I would share my experience with others.
I hunted GC7D2A. A cache hidden way back in 2002.
Unfortunately I’m so rusty I just couldn’t locate it. An Ammo Can in the woods. Sometimes it is possible to DNF them.
I hiked in the woods with my dog. No muggles around me. Not even any moquitos around. No tics either!
The terrain was tough with a dog on a leash at ground zero and an out of shape guy like me.
I even tried out my Iphone during the hunt. The GPS on it was the same accuracy as my Oregon and pointed at the same spots (here and there, here and there, there and here) Even logged my DNF from the field… not too wordy of course 😉
My find count for the weekend = 0. And I’m okay with that.
I enjoyed my visit to Hayman Falls county park and my hike along the river falls. And the kids had a blast swimming.
That’s what it’s about.
Oh and I didn’t even look for the other cache in the park. Yep, you can skip them. It’s not so hard. Trust me.
I’ll be back for you Ziggy Stardust…
08/01/2011 at 2:12 pm #1950989That’s funny. I skipped all 3 of these lonelies, but was within a couple miles on Saturday as we paddled the river. 6 caches in 5 hours and it was a great day. You’re perfectly right that it’s not about the numbers.
08/01/2011 at 3:07 pm #1950990Apologies for lagging a few days in logging, (trying to figure out the secrets of Wherigo) but we scoured the park late last week, and we think someone has taken possession of a few ammo cans, and picked the park clean. Hope we’re wrong.
But to your point, -cheeto-, that is a truly beautiful and secluded park, with a wonderful river that looked perfect for playing in on a hot and muggy day! The kind of place where you say “Screw the DNF.” We still had a memorably great time, that only a cache would have revealed to us. And, ummmm, especially a Lonely Cache……… 😳 😳
08/01/2011 at 3:08 pm #1950991What do you mean it’s not about the numbers?!? Does that mean my 12 caches last month don’t count? That was my biggest month since April! 🙂
08/01/2011 at 3:19 pm #1950992I had a great day caching yesterday as well. I met up with 14 others to attempt GC12C3Z Scooby Doo and the Mystery of Half Moon Lake. In our 8 kayaks, 2 canoes, and a pontoon boat, we made a formidable flotilla. 3 hours later we pulled out victoriously. Some of the others went on to make a few more finds, but I was satisfied with my one smiley for the day. Great adventure, great group, lots of fun.
All opinions, comments, and useless drivel I post are mine alone and do not reflect the opinions of the WGA BOD.

08/10/2011 at 4:50 pm #1950994So, I disappear from the forums for a few months, and one of my caches ends up being a topic.
Ziggy was missing, but I figure 1 required owner maintenance in 9 years is ok.

08/10/2011 at 6:34 pm #1950997You say that now, but what will you be saying after spending a weekend in the same general vacinity?
08/10/2011 at 6:43 pm #1950998No campfire songs!
