Or are y’all keeping that a secret? We’ve been trying to get these the way we’ve been getting DeLorme, but doggone it, that final is sitting at the top of our “not found” list. We’re heading up to grab the Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley ones tomorrow. I was able to get a couple more in Baldwin when I took my parents on a road trip the other day. The remaining ones are beyond our reach, so we might need to plan a few roadtrips.
Does anyone else worry that by the time they get to them, some might be muggled?
08/16/2007 at 2:34 am #1878045zuma miles? Haven’t heard of them. But there are a number in some series that have gone missing before I got there, the owner usually makes an exception.
08/16/2007 at 2:58 am #1878046Mike, the Zuma miles arethe caches put out for his last birthday. Fifty one caches, each makred as a mile from his house.
Now, for next year……………….
08/16/2007 at 3:28 am #1878047Next year, I am lobbying for a 52 stage multi to cut down on my workload!
08/16/2007 at 7:21 am #1878048The zuma miles series is a series of caches that WI Robin organized, and many western Wisconsin geocachers participated in putting out caches for my 39th birthday. Ironically, they put out 51 of them, thinking that I was 51, and that there would be one cache for each year.
It is a great series, and I am very thankful to WI Robin for organizing it, and all the great folks who put out the 51 caches. It took me from me from my birthday on June 20th to July 6 to find em all. The general idea is ya got to find all 50 of the caches, and then get the bonus of a 51st cache, which is in Perot State Park, on top of one of the great bluffs there.
The caches that were put out in the Miles series were just awesome, it is hard to remember having this many challenging, scenic caches in a single series. Not a single one was a dud. The were all awesome, from Da Bloodhound’s fantastic canoe cache with THD’s old canoe, a very evil multi put out by lagrac, Roaming Pack’s great scenic cache by the Black River (complete with a wonderful contraban cigar), Doc’s scenic Wiggling Worm cache, Bandit’s great 4 stage multi along the Black River, dcrand’s first cache ever in Riverview Park, Kent’s challenging Clay Mine cache close to home, the many, many excellent caches by MamaKat, but especially the really cool one at Falls City Cemetary where I was lucky to get the find by sacrificing a can of diet Mountain Dew, the challenge of finally finding the Corydon cache by EC-JEMS, the fun find in the Wintergreen Forest by Spike, as well as the unique sculptures at Prairie Moon where drhaas put a cache. In short, it is an awesome series, that was put on by a lot of great folks in this area.
The twist is that Mile 1 is 1 mile from house, Mile 2 is 2 miles, etc, all the way to mile 50, which is 50 miles away.
I think quite a few teams are working on the series, and they will not be disappointed by Robin’s final. So far none of them have been muggled, and they are generally in rural hiding holes that are at lower risk for muggle activity, so I would think that the series will withstand the test of time fairly well.
I guess this is to provide info on those not in western Wisconsin, and not familiar with the series, and also a public thank you to Robin and her henchman, for putting out a great series. Also a big thank you to Team Deejay for working with Robin to get the series out within the perimeters that she wanted: 1 cache at each mile distance from my home coordinates, all published on June 20th.
As far as next year goes, I am sure I will be 39 again, and I think 52 caches will be just fine. 😉 I did not think it would be possible to top the 50 caches in the HBZ series last year, but the “Miles” series is even more awesome.
So that is the scoop on the Miles series. If you havent started it yet, I highly reccomend it!!!

08/16/2007 at 12:08 pm #1878049If we’re successful today, we’ll have 35 of the 50 needed. We’ve enjoyed all of the ones we’ve done so far, and yes, that one by lagrac is evil, evil, evil! LOL After this, the ones we still need are more northerly, like Owen/Withee. Looks like we’ll be taking some alternate routes to visit the in-laws one day! 😉
We have a pretty good idea where that final is located, having hiked those bluffs before, but each of these caches is a great one on its own, and we don’t want to miss them!
52 next year? Ai-yah! Just don’t put the final in our 50 mile radius, LOL.
08/29/2007 at 9:38 pm #1878050we did Mile 49 while we were staying in Warrens. It was seriously one of the best caches we’ve done so far. But I’m pretty sure they’ve rellocated it now..but at least at the point in which WE found it in, it was pretty amazing..our first ammo box, too..and we got some pretty sweet swag!! 🙂
