It’s not as if you’re losing your memory, RSplash40, or getting old, or can’t find caches very well. It’s like the little boy in the Kenny Rogers song, who didn’t know he “could pitch that well.” You just hide ’em good!
Oops, so as not to steal this thread, I logged TB drops as “found it’s” when I started. “It’s Not About The Numbers” notified me of my multiple finds of individual caches. To keep the numbers true, I corrected them to “write notes”. Even though INATN, it hurt a little to see my finds number get smaller.
And to tug another thread from this quickly unraveling cloth, have you noticed how we (the cache-placers) like to control the experience of the finder – night caches evolve to a point where they can (in theory) only be accomplished at night. But some take the challenge, for whatever reason, to use what clues they can (stickers on a tree in daylight), to find a cache no matter the circumstances.
And some caches give you a wide-open experience to take what you will.We will do what we can to find cache.
It is a matter of survival as a geocacher.OK. Too much coffee.
06/02/2007 at 4:39 pm in reply to: Garmin publishes API library, geocaching.com new features #1875270I usually try to remain reserved on this forum, but that Motion Based software is AWESOME!
I have just a simple little yellow eTrex. It pulled data from the last few months of geocaching, and presented it to me in easy to understand formats: charts, graphs, lists.
No disclaimers, I don’t work for Garmin, but check it out.
I downloaded the software, uploaded my data, and was flipping through charts quickly and easily.
It’s always compelling to see my interests in the media.
This program did present the newbie’s excitement well. It also showed, subtly, one of my favorite parts of geocaching: realizing that you don’t know a place you thought you knew (“I didn’t even know this was here!”)
The experienced GC’er was patient, and taught the newbie what he knew.
But I think we can do better.
We should be able to find a media contact that would be willing to take a little more time to prepare a thorough overview of “Geocaching as We Know It.”
(uh oh, I thinking I hear a committee forming.)I’ve got 7:30 PM, Thursday, May 31 on WHRM, Wausau.
Excellent choice.
It’s fun helping newbies in the woods, however…
I’ll be in Galena, IL, golfing the Riniker Open.I cut and pasted mine together before I saw the others. I like PCFrog’s small 4 color logo on the front and the coded text on the back.
Here’s mine anyways. I just pulled the pics from the internet, so we’d have to create our own images of the topo-map, compass and pennant.
I would second Calumet County Park. It’s definitely a different feeling, camping on that big shallow lake, as compared to the lakes Up North.
You gotta see this location, both up close, and from the hill:

Thanks for the info. I’m still a newbie an that little gadget.
We had about a dozen people show up last night. Some of us had helped put out the new caches. Some of my team members. And some curious people – some had cached a little, had friends who cached.
Pete & Joel put on a good show. We had a few good rounds of trivia, and talked about trekking through the snow.
Now I know about events, and I can prepare a little better next time. And maybe we’ll get better weather.
In the back of my mind, I thought a little bit of snow would be nice to hide our original tracks…
Well anyways, with lots of teamwork, we’re underway.
After heading out to find a few caches tomorrow, we’ll be going over to the Claridge Clubhouse to relax. Hope to see you there.
I just got home and found an email concerning the info posting. She had been out of the office for a few days. It seems that she understood our intent to be that we post the game info when the caches are released on the 1st of March. She has collected and created the info. It should be at http://www.northwoodsgeocaching.com/ on the 1st.
I also emailed the people dispersing “the official word”, asking them to post info on their website, so that we’re all ready to go find these caches this weekend.
I didn’t get a response, and the website hasn’t changed.
I tried to set up an event cache, but apparently they have to be posted at least two weeks before the event.
We’re still on, though. So come on up. We’ll be there.
Here’s the Claridge’s coords:
N 45° 38.317 W 089° 24.650I was at the meeting last night. Good progress was made.
I believe we settled on releasing the travel bugs in waves.
