  • Very interesting topic. I had set a goal of finding a cache every day for a whole year; however, this eventually became an obsession. To prove that I was still in control, I chose to let the streak end at just over six months.

Once you are no longer to make this type of decision, you have crossed the fine line to addiction. The degree of addiction is, of coourse, a horse of another color.

Now if I could only shake this nasty cold that I brought home from Green Bay as my “prize.” My wife knew I was sick when I opted to spend most of yesterday in bed instead of heading out to grab the 20 new caches that popped up within 28 miles of my home.

Hit #1,090!!! Although, our family has not suffered from any diagnosed congenital heart defects, I have high school and college friends whome have been directly affected. One of my closest friends and I once spent an entire day in “jail” to raise money for the Shriner’s Hospital. We called everyone we knew for “bail” money and everyone we called opened up their wallets to help. It is truely amazing how people can come together in support of a good cause.

    Congrats on the unique “milestone.”

Additionally, I do not feel the need to state the names of anyone involved and/or the cache listing where this all started. Even though the cache owner has expressed his/her hate for me, I don’t want a flood of e-mails directed at any of the parties out of respect for their privacy.

Was your log and the others involved deleted on the cache page? I searched a lot of cache logs and found nothing even close.

You could search forever and not find “the log” if you are looking for logs posted by me. I did not post a log that stated “God Bless America.” That was done by another cacher and notes were posted after that persons log. I just checked the cache page and the “found it” log and notes are still there. I e-mailed the first person who posted the intolerant note and then the owner of the cache jumped into the mix. The e-mails between myself and the poster of the first note were mostly civil, but the jump-in e-mail by the cache owner was not so friendly. In fact it was quite nasty.

Since I started this thread, the e-mails from the cache owner continued to spew hate and intolerance toward me and anyone who feels the need to protect Constitutional rights for all.

I know the cache owner is reading this thread and maybe he/she should reread my e-mails. I’ve not expressed my personal religious beliefs anywhere in the text and I’ve not attempted to force religion on anyone. My e-mails were intended to point out the intolerance and bigotry of the stance posed by the individual who felt the need to bash the patriotic American who included the National Motto in their “found it” log.

Unfortunately, I simply cut and pasted the quote. I would have loved to post the entire e-mail, but certain parts would offend and make even the hardest of soles blush and it might throw a shadow over the reputation of a popular cacher.

I wish someone would have told me ahead of time that geocaching and the WGA are intended only for Atheists. If you could only read the e-mail thread…………

I have no tolerance for intolerance and bigotry.

I actually made three visits but only had the opportunity to search two times because of teenagers loitering on the cannon. They were sitting on top of the barrel. On my second visit, there was a lot of activity in the park and it was hard to search without looking like I was searching for something. I looked down the barrel and discovered a few coke cans and some assorted trash items. I actually touched the cache on my second visit but the camo job was too good and I thought I may have been doing something very bad.

As much as I hate to say it, I think there is a very good chance the cache may have simply been removed by a local teenager who happened to discover this bolt was not frozen in place like the other bolts.

Can’t wait to see the next two Nemesi.

That SUCKS Jay!! This cache took me two visits and a hint to locate. Even with the hint, I wasn’t sure I found the cache because the log was not in the bolt when I visited.

I had no idea it took so long to get the bolt conditioned just right.

I was quite saddened to hear of Steve’s passing this morning. I had the honor of caching with Steve a few times and even witnessed a FTF of his on a very tricky little Rogheff cache. He truly loved the outdoors and was an asset to the greater geocaching community. He will be deeply missed and I will remember his laugh and passion.
