MemberI’d say it depends on the person, if someone on the board feels uncomfortable with that person helping then they would just have to be tastefully told they couldn’t help with that particular area. But as far as a common rule though, I normally don’t turn down help unless there is a good reason to. Especially if someone is enthusiastic about it and the help is needed. Of course, it also helps to find out which jobs will fit best with which people to make things run as smooth as possible.

MemberI never have claimed to be very tech savvy but I do well enough in most tech areas. I can usually figure it out after playing with it for a while. While I might not be the best at the tech stuff I will get by and help out as much as I can and learn as I go. I have also written a WordPress blog for several years which if I have deduced correctly is what out main website is hosted on, so that skill could come in handy.

MemberWhile I don’t know the specifics of why the CITO events died off in activity I think it is for sure something that should be brought to discussion and encouraged. It is of course possible that the such kinds of things could be incorporated into other WGA events.

MemberI never have really thought much about what my spirit animal would be but if I had to pick one it would be a penguin. Fun loving, playful, waddles, can handle the cold (okay so that one isn’t true but that is why they invented layers), they are good at coordinating in groups and are social. They are also flightless much like I am, I’m the wife of superman and afraid of heights.

MemberFor a while I was certainly only a finder but once I got more of an idea for the game I quickly started to enjoy the hiding part of it as well. I only have three hides to my name but I have helped superman with several of his hides. So I guess I sit on the fence of being both but if I had to pick one I think it would be a finder.

MemberWith 9 different personalities on the board, your opinion may not be the one chosen by the group.
How will you handle this? Can you tell us about a time this has happened to you?I have been in this situation many times, I work with a group of admin to maintain a website and we don’t always have the same ideas. I have learned through that how to present my opinions that differ in ways that don’t sound demeaning. I also fully acknowledge the fact that my idea isn’t always the best idea and that is why their is a board and not just one person running the show.
…and those less enjoyable tasks (like washing dishes or typing up event descriptions), how do you feel about spending your time doing these things while everyone is off caching or socializing?
I don’t mind at all. I know that sometimes being in certain roles mean that you don’t always get to have all the fun, sometimes work has to get done and someone has to do it.
One last piece:
How will you handle having to lead something that is outside your comfort zone such as talking in front of a large group or coordinating a pancake breakfast for example? So, a lot of things that I have done in my life are outside of my comfort zone and in my experience for the most part they have usually lead to positive growth so I am constantly pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I also used to do public speaking for fun even thought it terrifies me if that tells you anything about me.

MemberI like to consider myself to be a very optimistic person. Believe it or not, this has almost got me punched on a few occasions. When I was in basic training for the Army, people would always scowl at my words of encouragement and positive attitude but I just persisted and I actually ended up having a few people thank me near the end and tell me that it had helped, they were just too grouchy to admit it at the time. My Sergeants also recognized that attitude and put me in a leadership role where my job was to keep people motivated which is very difficult to do in a military training situation. I held that position for the rest of the duration of basic training and loved the opportunity to serve in that capacity.

MemberThis is a tough question for sure since I have been to so many amazing caches! My favorite types of caches are ones that take me to awesome places. Geocaching is about the adventure for me so if it takes me to a place I would have never known about otherwise it is great in my book.
So I would have to choose Rolling Hills Cemetery (GC5WF1N) as my all time favorite cache. It was a very neat location with a lot of history that I would have never learned about if it weren’t for the cache.

MemberI would have to agree that I am also not a fan of P and G’s, they serve their purpose to some in the community but I much prefer geocaches out in the woods. This is going to sound very cheesy so bear with me. I believe when it comes to that sort of thing as a community we have to be the change we want to see by placing more caches that aren’t just P and G’s but have a little more substance to them. An other idea could also be compiling a list of ‘family friendly’ caches that are in the state to make it easier for people to get involved with them as well as highlight and promote those kinds of caches.

MemberI would have to say that I lean more towards being pro on the thought of making the Facebook page a group instead. There is obviously two sides to the issue of having Facebook being a more instant response, it involves closer regulation. In my local geocaching community, we have a Facebook group and it seemed to be a well liked, effective communication between the members. I also understand that not everyone uses Facebook and it would more be a secondary form of communication to the main site.

MemberMy biggest strength that I would bring to the team would being able to work with fellow board members regardless if I agree with them or not. I have honed my skills at constructive conversation when it comes to any situations. I would have to say my biggest weakness would by my spelling abilities. I have struggled with spelling most my life. Don’t worry though, I usually have a Superman around to proof read for the important stuff.

MemberWhile I have never served on a board of directors before, I have been in other forms of ‘leadership’ so to speak. From being a lead at my job despite my young age and opportunities I had while serving in the Army. I have become an active member in my local geocaching community and I am sure that I will strive to continue to grow the community as a whole whether elected or not.
As for skills, I make a pretty good waffle. 😉
Besides that, I am good at written communication. Between my job as a lead at my work and my love of writing, I have learned to communicate effectively through the written word. I would also consider myself good at team work as well as coming up with solutions to problems that others might not think of. I have learned this through my history of working in the Army and working with people from different walks of life and beliefs.

MemberThe roll of the BOD at events, whether WGA sponsored or not, is to be professional, social, and interactive with all other cahcers and the community. One of the best ways to draw members to the WGA and Geocaching is how members, especially board members portray themselves when at these events. I imagine that at WGA events there will be more involvement from the board members with planning and making sure that things run smoothly so being a part of that will be instrumental to the success of these events.
