Welcome to the fun! People here are helpful, so even a dumb question isn’t so dumb–others may be wondering too. Visit regularly for ideas on upcoming events or suggestions on great caches…lots of conversation to build up the geonetwork. Cache on! 🙂
Glad you could join us. Visit often for technical advice, cache recommendations, or even just jokes and conversation. Have a great time caching! 🙂
Thanks to all who were able to attend. From the highway it didn’t look too bad, but once in the ditches, I was surprised to find enough trash to fill my two bags. I think everyone else did as well. Thanks to K0rpl for persisting in making contact with the highway officials to organize this.
I don’t know if it is true of most of school districts, but many around here require some community service hours. If any of you have children that have hours to earn, maybe this would be a good opportunity to consider. And it is also a good way to help even younger children learn about the importance of keeping our environment clean.
SammyClaws, this happens to me as well. If I don’t have time to read each of the forums, and I log off, when I log back on, I have to remember what I haven’t read. I tried it again to see if it was true all the time. Lots of new posts today, but I logged off right after reading this forum, and logged back on. All the forums were then white, not colored in like when they have the new posts. Even though I hadn’t read them, it changes color as if I did. I just figured that’s the way it is.
I shamelessly promote the Zeroes to Heroes series at the Purdy Preserve in Appleton. Only one cache is mine; I have a couple more to do, but they all have been a good hike in my opinion. Several cachers have done the whole series in one day. It takes quite a bit out of me to hike there, so I limit myself. The trails are loops with several access points. Read the cache pages for restrictions on the trails.
The other trails I have hiked and cached on are more linear. There are a lot of them in the Fox Valley.
Way to go! And thanks for the descriptive log. I hope to venture out for Soup soon, but not too soon! 😆
I must be missing something. I clicked on your profile and also on the state/county stats at the left of the home page. Your list is no different than others (in general stat terms not specific stats, of course). Basic columns of numbers, a graphic, a few cache names… I don’t get how it is bragging. Statistics speak for themselves.
As for logs, I randomly chose ten logs to read. If anything, you have been humble–almost didn’t find this one, tricky hide, GPSr fading so will return another time. And every one I read was substantive. It spoke of your experience (weather, environment, hard to find), made a joke or told a story, and thanked the owner for placing the cache. And hey, if it is a milestone find, why not say so? A cache owner could be proud that you made that cache a milestone. We celebrate other milestones in life, what’s wrong with a simple statement in a log? Noting your accomplishments does not diminish the achievements of others.
Welcome! This is a great way to learn more about geocaching, network, and exchange information on- and off-topic. Visit this site often!

Amita I think at work they use the State of Wisconsin website. The first link will send you an email when flags are to be flown at half staff. I don’t know if the email provides the reason why the flags should be lowered. The second link is to the governor’s office where executive orders are posted. Executive order 311 was for Specialist Robert Rieckhoff.

Thanks for the information. Now I know where to look!
My sympathies to both families…
On a parallel, is there a website that we can look this information up, on when flags are at half staff, who it is in honor of? I knew who it was for this time, but many times I don’t and have wondered where I could find out.
Congratulations on the milestones, guys! I was glad I could make the event. 🙂
Glad to have been at the milestone event…congrats!
Welcome to the WGA! I’m a Debby too 🙂
How great that you have friends and family who enjoy your obsession. Mine just tolerate it. Lucky for me the WGA is full of people with the same hobby who “get” it. You sound like you have made good choices to get started, and you will love the West Bend Cache Ba$h. Have fun!
Welcome! As you can see, there are folks here involved with scouting and these forums are a great place to network and share ideas and resources. I hope the boys enjoy caching as much as I do. Thanks for your work in educating young minds and helping them develop leadership skills and friendships.
