I haven’t done enough caching to validate a post on the gripe thread, although I have had my frustrations, but they mostly come from my end of things! 😳 Positives, though, I CAN post! 😀
Ditto of so many posted above, and I want to add, the generosity, friendliness, and kindness of other geocachers, who take the time to help out novices, in the forums or in the field, with getting to know our fine hobby. I am still learning, but even I was able to “pay it forward” already. Let’s keep up the great sportsmanship!
I say 719. That is a random, uneducated guess based on what was guessed already. I have no idea what the magic MEGA number is 😕 🙂
Regarding the class I mentioned in the previous post…
It is being offered twice this summer, both are Saturdays.
June 20 4-6:30 p.m.
Aug. 15 1-3:30 p.m.Class is for 14 years and older. Under 14 ok with an adult.
Cost is Y member $4, General public $6, additional family members $2 a person.
See contact info in the previous post.
Are you from Seymour? I know there are several cities that claim that title, but that is the only one I know.
Welcome from Menasha. I don’t think we have a claim to fame. Certainly not my caching prowess! 😆 Keep caching at that pace and you will pass me up in no time. Have fun at this game/obsession. 🙂
I chose find caches, for many of the reasons already said. Haven’t hidden any, like the places I get to go, thrill of the adventure, couldn’t do a lot of maintenance on hides… but I am grateful there are those who chose hide. Otherwise, what would I get to find?
Retired, huh? Consider this your new job…it can become that all-consuming. But at least it is enjoyable. Now if we only could find someone to pay us to do this…
West Bend hosted a great event last August, and it is happening again–the West Bend Cache Ba$h. If you don’t meet other area cachers before then, it is the time and place to do so.
Have fun!
Glad to have you aboard!
It is a lot of fun! You can learn a lot in these forums too. Everyone is helpful. Glad to hear of lots of families enjoying our sport.
Welcome to the WGA! I use the zip code method under hide and seek caches, or if I am looking in a city I know, I use the street name, city, and state in the address box of hide and seek caches. It was recently mentioned in the forums to use the bookmark listings. I have yet to try that, but others who have way more finds than I do have posted these, so that is another way to go.
Welcome! Lots of members cache with their families, so I am sure you can find out family-friendly places to cache and ways to make it enjoyable for all. Have fun! 🙂
Wow, 7000! I can’t even imagine. That’s dedication!
You’re in good company. Glad to have you in the WGA!
Welcome! Have fun with all this craziness! 🙂

As a sometimes-cacher, I tend to have a 30-50% DNF every time I set out. I’m always a little embarrassed to log a DNF, and have only done it (like Gotta Run said) when others recently have. I just figure most of my DNFs really are there, and I am just too blind to see them, am off on the coordinates, or I give up too easily. (Most likely the last one.) Now I see that there’s a real reason to log them that may have nothing to do with my caching abilities. Since no one is keeping track of my DNFs but me, why should I be hesitant to log them? Thanks for educating me on another aspect of geocaching.
