My bird story is not as exciting. While walking early this morning, I saw a hawk sitting in the middle of a residential street. I think it was a bit injured as it let me pass by about 10 feet from it before it wobbled a little and then flew up to the power pole. I guess it isn’t that far from the prairie-ish sides of the highway, no doubt escaping the construction hoopla.
And do birds other than woodpeckers peck wood? I saw a very small (ordinary bird, something local) pecking a pole, maybe looking for bugs?
