Yes, I’m sure there are lots of very interesting stories Ken could share with us on his history of the cache.
I’m excited about the article! Thanks!
There are indeed only about a half-dozen to a dozen individuals that cast votes. SOme that used to vote don’t appear to be caching anymore, and some recent votes are from new cachers.
As to the newsletter… the web site was supposed to be the newsletter. Articles, announcements etc. I agree it would be nice to have other ways to make Wisconsin cachers aware of WGA. Cache owners that see new folks caching in the area and sending out a short message about WGA is a great idea. Even just shooting new cachers a link to the website should work. If anyone comes up with a short info-note, we could certainly list it on our ‘Help Spread the Word’ page. Perhaps our resident writter could start the ball rolling?
Regarding the number of cachers registered. No one registers with WGA. If you cache in Wisconsin, you’re a member. There is no sign up process. Just jump in and have fun
As was suggested, I can certainly extend the COTY vote, but what is the suggestion to do with voting for the January COTM? It needs to start sometime, or there won’t be one.

K9 Cache was a great one just outside Madison. My daughter’s dog loved the place. But the cache is gone now… Its still one of the best play places to take your dog though, even without a cache
Okay, here’s the latest:
(Arn tried the WGA logo font, but it was a bit too hard to read when reduced. Also, moving the year to its own line helped readability)

Arn mentioned to me yesterday when she did the rotation that the month/year text needed to be flipped, but didn’t have the time right then. So its on her list
I personally like the WGA logo still being straight up and down even with the ribbon rotated. Makes it easier to read. She is working now with the material Jeremy sent us (thanks Jeremy!).
Two thoughts:
1) By using a seperate graphic for each winner, the server logs can give us an idea as to what pages are using the graphic to track if any unauthorized usage is occuring.
2) Likewise, we should put small text say at the bottom of each graphic stating the winning cache name. That will make it much less likely for anyone to incorrectly place a graphic on a cache page.
Not that anyone would ever do such a thing, so it may be un-necessary. If that’s the concensus, then I agree a single graphic sans date would make the most sense.
Okay, how about these layouts then? Cocking them a bit makes them more square, taking up less verticle space. Note that its still the old background till we get new ones from Jeremy. The small one is at 66% of original instead of 50%, so its a bit larger. #3 is the ribbon as a gif with transparent background so it will blend into the cache owners cache page.

Shoot us the WGA logo with a white, light blue, yellow (matching the upper portion of #3), and gold (matching the lettering of ribbons) backgrounds (I think that was all the suggestions ) and she can try out those ideas.
What font does the WGA logo use so we can try that as well.
Also, if #4 is too small, what would work? That was a 50% reduction, want to see a 33% reduction?
Arn just made these for you to all look at for ideas.

They could be shrunk in size too. For example:

I like this one from Ken’s post:
Change the logo in the circle to the WGA logo, then text to the right that says something like Voted July Cache of the month
The graphic itself should include the link to the COTM web page.
I NOW CALL THIS MEETING TO ORDER
i now call this meeting to orderHMM? WHAT WAS THAT?
hmm? what was that?STOP THAT! WHO’S COPYING ME?
stop that! who’s copying me?Excellent idea!
It keeps breaking, and won’t stop untill Arlene has time to re-write it for me in the programming language she uses. My programming language has a defect that causes the voting system to crash on certain combinations of cache names. I can get it up again (as it is now), just to watch it die the next time someone votes. Its been this way since I first wrote it.
Arlene has been too busy to get the new voting system finished for me, she is over half done. Guess we’ll just have to keep limping along till she has some time to spend on it.
Sorry… its back up.
Personally, I’ll take rules anyday considering that the probably alternative from property managers is “keep out!”
