I can’t speak for ‘Easy as pumpkin pie’, but we stummbled across ‘What are you fishing for’ by accident when hiding our caches, and the co-prdinates for that one were right on.

    Jeremy,

Sorry, but I had one of the co-ordinates for our “Summer Fun” cache incorrect. The listing up above is now correct. Sorry for making you update the map etc. twice.

AH! Now I know what that picture was of that you just added to your WGA photo album!

I’ll shoot him a line and see if he could do two sided copying (one side in color) onto RITR paper. I’ll let you know his answer.

in reply to: blown serial port #1739417

Guess we’ve been lucky, never fried a port from connecting up the GPSR. Anyway, if its an ISA serial card you need, I might have one in my spares pile. Let me know…

If we head out on a hunt and realize we left the compass at home, we quit and go back home. On the other hand, if it was the GPSR we left home, well we’d probably still try hunting with just the compass

Seriously, we can’t understate how usefull a compass is in geocaching. As for loss/poor signal under tree cover, we haven’t experianced that yet, but thanks for the tips Steve, we’ll keep them handy!

There are pictures of the area in the WGA photo album under the WGA section. Just look for the Geo-Picnic 2002.

in reply to: hard find #1744921

Please don’t give in to the temptation to ‘dumb down’ your cache. Perhaps the difficulty rating needs to be higher than a 3.5 if its really that well hidden. Cacher’s need to pay attention to the rating of a cache, and if its hard, then they need to expect to have to work hard, and possibly even fail at finding it. If people don’t want to work that hard to find a cache, then they should limit the maximum difficulty rating that they choose to go after.

Also, if you make a hard to find cache, and that’s your intention, then expect a sub-average success rate and some complaints, but that’s what a hard cache is all about!

Hmm… gee… it seems to have come to the notice of geocaching.com and is now archived.

Cap Kal, I get exactly what you are saying now, thanks!

Caesaria, there is a link to a Wisconsin geocache map on the main WGA page (go back to the main page and its on the left side of the fake topomap menu). This map is done by Buxley and is updated daily. Clicking on a dot will take you to the cache details page. But unfortunatly, it does not have county lines on it

You’re right, that was very strange to start with. Your version was a definate improvement!

I checked the profile of the guy that hid it. He has 0 finds and 3 hides – strange. Note, his account has been moved to inactive status on geocaching.com

Isn’t that only true for the person hiding the cache in the last county that needs one? Everyone before him can’t apply for the state-wide cache until then as that last county is still missing a cache.

For accuracy, I’d still like to see Menominee included, even if its just a virtual in one of the public areas. Perhaps someone can check it out and see what can be created.

in reply to: Chicago geocaching picnic #1744905

Trip went well, and we did indeed make it to the picnic. Left PA at 7AM and hit Busse Woods at 3PM. Got to see some old friends and put faces to some new ones. Little CacheCalf (Eryn) hunted one cache for us so we could log the picnic, then headed home to unpack and cool off. The anniversary party went well, saw many of Arn’s cousins she hadn’t seen since we moved away from PA 20 years ago.
