Okay, I was thinking maybe your road trip would take you past me, or we could meet somewhere nearby.
Anyway, the offer is there
The idea has merit in its attempt to solve the reported problem of running into other teams at caches. I’m glad we tried it, and appreciate Ken’s work in putting it together. Hopefuly this thread will help refine the idea. My thoughts:
This concept suffers from the law of diminishing returns. When you start, you had a very good chance that at least one baton was in the mothership. Once you returned though, you now had one less chance of a baton you needed being there. By the time you had hunted 4 of the 5, you could end up with a long wait. No matter how many satelite caches are involved, you will always start with a good chance of getting a baton, but it will keep getting harder to get the right baton as you progress.
I noticed on the tally board that only slightly more than half of the teams hunted the mothership/satellites.
I have a spare… where are you located?

Please try it again now. We had slightly over-tightened security

Would you please post here the quote that lead you to believe that temporary event caches are no longer allowed? I can guarentee you that not a single one of the admins has ever believed, nor operated from that understanding.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, just look at the event calendar and you will see new events being approved everyday. By posting the quote that lead you to draw that conclusion, perhaps I can get an adjustment to the wording.
BTW, here in Wisconsin, you don’t need to worry about getting different interpretations from different admins. With the extremely rare exception, we have only one admin reviewing our caches

At last years picnic, all of the caches were made available by WGA as TODO lists. It was very simple to pull up the cache, read its details, hints etc, and when the cache was found, just check it off the todo list. You could see folks all over the picnic beaming the list to each other.
I don’t know if WGA is doing that for the campout, I hope so… you could ask over on the campout thread.I’d love too, but you’re a bit far away for me… Thanks for the offer!

Whoa! There was some mis-communications there. There is no rule against temporary event caches, they are being approved all the time.
There is indeed a ban on temporary caches, but not on temporary cache events. Temporary caches related to events, such as all the caches at this weekend’s geo-campout, must be logged on the event cache page, which is a practice WGA has done at all of their events. Temporary caches for events simply can not each have their own cache page.
Take this weekend’s campout for example. I think we can all agree it would be in poor form to sumbit 27+ caches to geocaching.com, just to archive all of them come next Monday.
Instead, one cache is submitted, the event itself, then WGA hands out the co-ordinates for the temp caches at the event, and after the event everyone logs their finds on the event page.
Um, gee gang… sorry, but I wasn’t really serious
Arlene read an article about this auction site while waiting for a crown to be put on, and we were browsing it when I saw this deal.
Heck, there are almost 600 ammo boxes in this deal, the DNR would run us out of state for sure! Plus, I’ve no idea what it would cost to ship 4 pallets, nor where I’d put them!
WGA also has a chat system on the website that the event planners and board has used on occasion. Nothing fancy… we had talked about a Wisconsin scheduled chat and opening the chat system to general usage, but there never seemed that much interest.
Just to add to Dave’s comment on battery life, the difference is measured in hours vs. weeks.
I’ve been wanting a Zaurus 5500 for its Linux features, but I sure wish it was availlable in greyscale. I’m so used to running my Palm greyscale PDA for weeks without battery changes, and don’t know if I could get used to daily recharges on a color device.

Cool setup Dave! While not the reason I purchased my Handera, the hires of its display is indeed very nice for a Palm based PDA. The monochrome has the distinct advantage though of giving ne about a month on the batteries, even when paperless caching
I use IE2PDB for my web clippings, but I’ve heard good thinks about Plucker.
