Hence clothes get sprayed outdoors and kept separate from our other clothes so as to not expose the cats. And when worn, we do not go near our cats. We love our fur babies (probably more than people). LOL.
Definitely a good heads up to those who own pets.
Pass. I don’t know what element14 is, and I don’t care. I don’t see why but I have to join join their community just to *maybe* get a trackable sent by groundspeak.
I was backpacking up near Eagle River two weeks ago. Prior to the trip, I treated all my clothes (as well s my son’s and hubby’s) with Sawyer Premium Insect Repellent Clothing (Permethrin). Well, after a weekend of trudging along a trail deep in the woods, we each had one tick – on our shoes which were not treated. My poor nephew who went along and did not have treated clothes – he was a tick magnet. He was pulling them off his clothes, they were crawling around where he was sitting in the van, and after he got home, he showered and was still pulling ticks off.
I wore the same clothes (after washing them) this past weekend into the woods, not one tick on me. Hubby who wore non-treated clothes – pulled three ticks off his clothes. I’ll stick with my permethrin treated clothes with an extra shot of 100% deet – just to be sure!
Mine is not the best method, but it’s functional. I use the nine pocket baseball card sheet in a binder. I put coins in the outer pockets and then tape the the tops closed. The inner pockets, I cut to size index cards and write the tracking numbers. It allows for people to see both sides of the coin and easily write the tracking numbers without actually handling the coins.
I rarely bring it to events these days. To me, it seems there is not much interest in looking at the coins. So, it mostly sits on a closet shelf collecting dust. LOL
Trekkin, when you plan to do a nice hike cache, let us know! We’d love to tag along if things work out (and if you want the company). Who knows, we may even spot some birds along the way!
For many of the reasons you mentioned Sandlanders, we have scaled way back on geocaching. It just isn’t fun anymore as a seeker and as a cache owner.
I don’t like park and grabs, I don’t like challenges. I didn’t get into caching to sit at a computer crunching numbers to see what I can/could accomplish just to log a stupid find in a sign post. I got into caching to go outside and discover new places and new things that were more than 10 feet from my car.
I’m getting to the point where I want to archive our caches. There just doesn’t seem to be the point of this game anymore – too many seekers who feel entitled to a find, getting harassed (told to archive and re-list the cache) because we messed up cachers DT grids when we changed the ratings. I don’t go to events much anymore as it feels like high school – either you are part of the “in” crowd or you don’t really exist.
When it comes down to it, the geocaching community is just mirroring what has become the norm in society as a whole.
Awesome!! We’ll be passing right by in mid- February! Might have to stop to collect the icon! Thanks for the info!
FYI: State Park stickers are not valid at Heritage Hill State Park in Green Bay. They have their own admission charges…currently it is $9/adult/visit. They also offer member rates starting at $30 that offers unlimited visits for one year.
LOL…with those smiley stickers, I thought Bartrod already found it!
I rarely date logs – and haven’t for some time now. I will if the cache hasn’t been found in a long time or it’s something special. Otherwise, I don’t bother.
We have three phones, all with unlimited data plans. We did download C:GEO and a GSAK file here and there, and maybe used it once.
When it comes to caching, we use a dedicated GPSr.While at the pre-bash, ran into some friends we knew from our Astronomy club days but hadn’t seen or talked too in many years. That was awesome!
Small world indeed.
Super Congrats!!!!
Michigan is number 2 right now. But I suspect come February, Florida will move to number 2.
One of our goodie bags was missing a lot (no swimming coupon, no bingo card, no blue clip, no WB travel magazine or whatever it’s called, no this vehicle is not abandoned) compared to the others. I thought it was because we weren’t listed as pre-registered, despite our will attend we posted in October. Maybe it just wasn’t fully packed?
I have to admit, I liked the toothbrush. Jacob took it to the boundary waters with him – as it was nice and small.
