Here is a picture of a typical rod…. they are usually contained inside a cylinder with an access cover to protect them. On the outer edge of the access cover is the PID or ID to ensure you found the correct one.

Another type of rod that is more difficult to verify as there are no markings and can be confused for property markers (Hence proof of measurments matching up with the origina description is crucial) that we have come across are actual metal rods….

This particular one was 9 inches below ground.

You will need to read the description. It should mention what you are looking for – a metal rod or the access covered metal rods. From experience, the first example are the most numerous now a days. As we like to call them, the “micros” of benchmarking as they are plentiful, usually easy to find and right off the road.

    Good Luck!

I saw one not to far from Marc’s place. Wondered what the heck it was doing in an “urban” setting.

Zuma, thanks to the Board for considering us who cannot make WGA events. Many of us lead very busy lives and cannot always attend WGA functions. I know personally, due to many upcoming Boy Scout committments, we cannot make any WGA events until the Picnic. I appreciate the Board is at least considering other options.

A BIG Congrats from us as well! We would have Congratulated you in person at the event, had we known!

I admit I have cleaned out the TBs in caches with the 1:1 rule. 😀

The problem I see with TBs nowadays – more and more caches are becoming micros, preventing the ready movement of TBs. And those that could hold a TB, might not be the best place to leave a TB. Makes TBs less attractive for me to pick up.

I don’t practice leaving TBs in place of taking swag either. I admit we did it once or twice when we first started aching, but figured out pretty quick, that it wasn’t the smart thing to do.

But like anything else, one cannot dictate how another can/should play.

Hey! I have that icon on one of my caches!! As a tongue in cheek kinda thing. No one seems to ever have noticed though.

What: Let’s Eat Pizza in Madison event (GC22Y60)

Cache on the way down to Madison, and around town some before the event.

The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30PM. So it will be a late return.

    No one out there interested?

would love to, but I work till 5:30 pm. 🙁

How about everyone stop putting out puzzle caches and there would be no issues surrounding them. It is the only type of cache I see (besides temps) where the open hostility, belittling and punch throwing begins forcing any attempts at rational and constructive discussion out the window.

Yes, you are making an assumption. Perhaps you should come down off that high chair, and come on a Tour, just once. Be surprised what goes on…..

(Actually, we spend a lot of time discussing how to write our ‘Found it” logs and where to have lunch 😆 😯 8) 🙄 )

We do spend a lot of time figuring out what and where on the lunch part! 🙂 Probably the best part of “bus tour” caching!

I know some of those lunches I went on were “working lunches” too – everyone bringing print outs of puzzles and ideas and trying to group think possible ideas to solutions.

If I’m running a race and someone pulls a Rosie Ruiz because they wanted to run the race the way they wanted to, it’s going to bug me even though I would have no chance of winning because I’m slow :). So it shouldn’t matter to me, since what they did has no impact on my own performance and experience–but it would.

If I go back to take some college courses–let’s say I’m auditing them so it’s just for my own edification, not a degree–and someone obtains some test answers and uses them because that’s the way they wanted to take the test, it’s going to bug me even though what they did has absolutely no impact on my own test experience.

It’s not a perfect parallel–back to that “rules for logging” issue again–but neither do I think it’s an apples-and-oranges comparision….more like a Gala and Braeburn comparison…

Now, without the online forum that is integral to geocaching, none of this would ever be known to me. I could have a whole greyhound bus full of poeple shortcut one of our letterbox puzzles and no one would be the wiser. But, I do know it with geocaches–also because some people go out of their way to wave it in my face–so, it bugs me. ‘Bout all I can tell you.

Thanks for the response. I’ll take a Braeburn over a Gala. 🙂

For me, it seems from your examples it’s more of an emotional response (due to conflicting standards perhaps) based on other’s actions rather than said actions having a true impact/effect on one’s own experience.

I hold out in case others want to chime in.

Thanks for letting me hijack you thread. 😉

There are two ferry rides – one to Washington and one to Rock. 🙂 Fees do apply.

I admit, I will log a puzzle if I didn’t solve it, but only if I put some real effort into trying to solve it. There are some puzzle cache logs that I have signed when I was with a group, but did not log as I didn’t even look at the puzzle. For that, I don’t deserve the smily.

Personally, I would appreciate that the cacher would have at least made an attempt at trying to solve the puzzle before logging the find. But I can’t and won’t dictate how people play. I’ve got more important things to expend my energy on than chastising, manipulating, guilting, shaming, condemning, etc people for logging a cache I may feel they have not rightfully expended the time, energy or brains in actually solving first.
