I do appreciate the time and effort it takes to set up an event like this. I’ve planned and chaired 3 regional conventions that encompassed 7 states and 200+ clubs. Big events equal a lot of work. So kudos to all those stepping up to help even in the smallest capacity!
With that being said, our bash experience was less than eventful. Our car crapped out Friday morning while out caching. From that point, we were pretty much stuck at the hotel all day. Did a few caches we could walk too at Ridge Run and Regner Park and points in between. I loved the idea of clustered caches this year (far less driving around), but because of our car issue and our group size of four, we couldn’t do any of them – to far to walk and too large a group to bum a ride.
Registration was painfully slow. We got there shortly after noon and still waited 45+ minutes in line for what? to get our name checked off in a book and receive a goodie bag? There has got to be a faster system for this. I’m not sure what – but something.
It would’ve been nice to have food available for purchase at the park. Spent a lot of time there – in line, at vendors, caching. The dance team has a booth set up on Main Street. Maybe another group could have a small stand at the park? Don’t know if it would be worth the time/money/profit, but throwing the idea out there.
We will be back next year. Hopefully our car won’t crap out and we can enjoy/partake in the bash more than we did.
First day nearly over and no souvenir for me. So that means I’ve got a one day no souvenir streak going!! LOL

If you log a find in August and then delete it (so you can relog it for September to avoid the souvenir), you’ll still be “stuck” with the souvenir.
We found that out the hard way. We accidently logged a battleship find but used the wrong battleship cache – one in Vermont instead of WI. We deleted the erroneous log and resubmitted it for the WI version, but now still have a Vermont souvenir that we didn’t earn. 😡
On the bright side we know how to acquire a souvenir for all 50 states a la armchair. 😈
You can contact GS and ask to have the souvenir removed. They will kindly do that.
Hmm…..Might be an idea for these silly August ones…….
I’m thinking when I cache in August – I’ll wait and log all my finds on September 1st. It’ll avoid getting those silly meaningless pixels.

Slightly off topic. Kat, are you guys doing the getaway again this year?
We aren’t plannnig it this year. However it is scheduled for June 20-23rd.
We won’t be there again this year. Duck has a Scouting thing in the U.P. that weekend.
I love Rock Island State Park. Takes some effort and money to get there – but definitely worth it if you want to “Get away from it all”.
It’s been awhile since we “adventure cached”. Other than dressing for the weather, water and snack, and bringing the GPSr…is there any ToTT we should have with us during the trek? Hiking stick/poles, etc? This way I won’t worry about forgetting something or overpacking.
With what HP said, sounds likely we’ll need some wardrobe changes when we done!
We’ll be there with Bartrod in tow!
Don and I couldn’t get snowshoes so it’ll take us longer to hike to/from the caches. Hope that’s not a problem.
Bartrod – Don says if weather is good and I’m feeling well enough, we can pick you up. We’ll figure out details this week.
Sweetlife – how long will it take to get to the cache site from Mountain? It’s about an hour twenty to get to Mountain from GB….
Still working on getting snowshoes…worse comes to worse, we hike it.
Jacob will be at Winter camp, so Don and I are a go..now to find some cheap snowshoes… any recommendations?
Pre-Congrats Lacknothing! Despite my wishful thinking, my knee isn’t quite healed up enough for this kind of trek yet. Bummer! Have fun and celebrate wildly!!
If we can find snowshoes for Don and I, and the weather is good, we’d be interested!! We’ll keep an eye on details.
AstroD may be up for a trip to the Wet Maze on Saturday depending on departure time and a few other factors…..
Sounds like a fun one for Hubby and son Duck to dive. Hm..maybe we could get a group of divers to go later this year???
Just got a new little flashlight – Nebo SE Redline:
250 lumens at 175 yds that can be adjusted down to 125 lumens at 76 yds or 25 lumens at 34 yds. Comes with a 1X to 4X zoom capability. Flashes SOS, has a strobe mode, battery indicator, magnetic base, glow on/off button. Also has a self defense head, a convex lens to evenly distribute the light (no dark splotches).
It’s about 4 inches long and runs on 3 AAA batteries.
Absolutely love it! And is now our go-to flashlight!
