Perseid Meteor Shower peak is tonight!

Excellent points Miata!! Hey, only piece of my gun the govt will get is..well, never mind. No need to report me either, I’ve taken that liberty myself.
Anyways, the fact that all these old clunkers cannot be resold seems to me there will be far fewer used cars on the lots for consumers to buy. So either the enviromental friendly crap car that can’t haul bleep or public transportation seems to be the way of the future. Makes me sick to no end. Better go buy my previously owned, big arse, gas-guzzling, pollution enhancing, can haul evenrything in one load vehicle now before they are all gone!!
Hmm..Wonder how long it will be before they start taxing the hell out of all those non eco-friendly cars out there?

in reply to: Another Boy Scout/Cub Scout Geocache Request #1912036

Girls Scouts have had a geocaching badge fro several years now. Jacob just got back from Boy Scout camp (no GPSrs allowed) and the focus was on map reading skills, compass use and then orienteering courses. Nothing was ever mentioned about GPS use.

I may send in a note to the council and see what’s up. I’m already involved with the council meirt badge wise anyways….

I’m not even sure of the Boy Scouts even know exactly what they are doing or wanting to do. I hope it’s not one of those jump on the bandwagon sort of things. I hope they are consulting with some experienced cachers who been in this game for awhile.

By the original description…”Would you be interested in helping Bay-Lakes Council establish geocaching sites to help promote Scouting and celebrate Scouting’s 100th Anniversary” it sounds a bit like commercialism.

“Will give hint after the FTF” (still there years later)

    “In the rocks” (well DUH!!!)

Check out my cache GCXXXXX. It’s awesome!”

“Be sure to park at 123 Main Street” (with no parking coordinates given)

That is the most infuriating hint! Yeah, like I have Internet access while out on the trail. And even if I did, it probably would be of no help.

in reply to: EC owners: Would you accept this photo? #1912220

I don’t own any Earthcaches, but I would be very hesitant. With all the programs and software and tech savvy people out there, pictures can easily be manipulated. And if one person gets around the “rules” using this new tech, other people will want and expect the same (Even if they don’t have a GPS camera).

From the Eathcaches I’ve done, a pix with the cacher and/or the GPSr have been standard. To me that simply means, make sure you have a camera that can do that. As someone who does Earthcaches, I wouldn’t even think of uploading a picture that doesn’t meet the guidelines.

I’m waiting for all these people who bought a new car to get them repossesed in 6-9 months for being unable to make the car payments.
THis program is nothing but a crock.

I saw that in my guide too. All I could think of, isn’t the 100s or 1000s already placed enough???

Oh come now. Two words…”Master Observer.” Can I have the 5 hours of my life back?

    Well, actually I learned a lot… 🙂

LOL just a little payback for the years I’ve spent on all those other puzzles out there!

in reply to: Spinning off……tech person or outdoors person? #1911761

When I came to the game I was neither techie nor outdoorsy. Could never afford the former and growing up, the family had no interest in the latter. I’ve learned to be a bit of both now. Although to be fair, the techie part only comes from collecting the techie gadgets (could care less if I know how to use them) and I love the outdoors – camping, hiking, etc. Mostly.

We won’t make either one as we’ll be busy in West Bend the first event and at a major star party (astronomy) the second. Sounds like fun though.

I’m sorry for your loss, and ultimately, all of our loss. Too bad it had to be ruined by people who just want a quick and cheap smiley.

in reply to: Reading the text on a cache page #1910843

I may not read the entire page for each cache, but I certainly do skim through them. That is of course, when I’m caching with the family and the laptop is in the car and I have access to the cache pages. When I’m group caching, I don’t have the laptop, nor do I have the cache page printouts (unless it’s an extensive multi or letterbox directions). I’m then at the mercy of the other cachers and their Palms for the info.

I agree with a few other posters, I find alot of useless crap put on a cache page. If it’s not relevent to the cache, the location, or the hide, I don’t care to read it. For example, I don’t care what items were the starting SWAG, and who the FTF honors go to. Another annoyance, the scrolling bar info and pictures are useless as well as they don’t show up when viewing the cache page in offline mode.

I got this in an email from a fellow male cacher a few days ago. Being female, I thought it was hilarious and passed it on to quite a few others.
