We’ve had a few. I’m not that excited about them either. Maybe the dazzle has finally worn off. Then again it could be the color – I was hoping for blue! *shrugs*

in reply to: personal moratorium on micros #1877611

We ignore the micro caches. We run PQs and deliberately remove micros from the list. There may be some micros that have a cool location, but for the most part, when we’ve come across them they are dead end streets, in a tree (when there’s a whole darned park to exploit) and other equally dumb locations. For us, the bad micro placements have outweighed any good ones that may be out there for us to even consider finding them anymore.

We also have a child. Micros, and hence geocaching, lose the appeal VERY quickly if all there is a logbook at each cache. For us, we’d still rather find a cache full of crap, then find a micro.

The only problem with our ban on micros, means we no longer get invited to go caching with others. We miss it, but hey, we choose to play our way and accept the adjustments that have come with it. Just as we accept those who enjoy the micros.

Thank you everyone for the congrats! Boy, its been awhile since we’ve cached. It felt GOOD!

Looking forward to getting out and caching with many of you again soon. It’s been way to long.

Wow, sounds like a fun weekend. while I can’t vouch for the instructor, I can vouch for Beaver Creek Reserve! (We spend a weekend across the street at the Hobbs Observatory every August). Beaver Creek can boast about excellent trails, butterfly house and nature center.

He’s got the symptoms, for sure, minus the rash. He has had these fever spikes for three days now, breaks out in a sweat, then gets chills. Joints ache, headache (but not screaming like in meningitis). He thought he was feeling better this afternoon, but crashed in the evening again. Caching tomorrow seems doubtful at this point.

Although he felt the doctor was very thorough, it was not our own family physician, who is well aware of our tendency to be out in the brush. When our younger son was a toddler, we were pretty sure he had Lyme, and called to bring him in. The nurse wouldn’t let us, she figured it was chicken pox. No way, if you’d seen this rash, you’d know that wasn’t it!

Anyway, the doctor had overheard the conversation, asked who’d called, and called us right back to bring him in. Highest titer in LaCrosse County up to that point, poor kiddo. So far, I’m the only family member who hasn’t been treated for it. I am always concerned because I have fibromyalgia, which means a normal state of aches and pains. I don’t even pay much attention to them anymore, because it’s just part of me. It’s caused me to be momentarily tricked when I had influenza, so it could do the same for lyme. Actually, my diagnosis came by default when I had gone in many years ago because I thought I had lyme. They tested for that and everything else along those lines, all of which came back negative. I had the pressure points for fibro as well.

It’s too bad we aren’t all 20 anymore, huh? 🙄

Ach! Sounds like the same symptoms I’ve been dealing with since my tick bite at the camp out. I had the added joy of nausea and muscle weakness. But I never got a rash. So I didn’t think it was a big deal and never went to the doctor. Hmm…maybe I should have?

in reply to: Date Selection for the WGA fall Picnic #1874772

I don’t know if the picnic committee has decided on a location yet but I do have a suggestion. How about the Brown County Reforestation Camp (NEW Zoo)? What better way to reinforce the recent decision of the County NOT to charge us to place caches than to bring a boost to the local economy?

We are glad to hear of the positive outcome from the meeting on Thursday. Would like to have been there but we had a previous commitment and could not make it. Now hopefully the full board will agree and we can put this one behind us.

in reply to: UWGB Arboretum – OFF LIMITS TO GEOCACHING #1875638

So what can be done to get to the heart of the problem here?
Is it educating the folks at UWGB to what geocaching is all about?
    What are their concerns?
Are there certain areas that they wish to “protect” so they just put the whole thing off limits instead of defining specific areas to avoid?
Has anybody from the WGA or Groundspeak had any further discussions with UWGB about this?

Sorry for all the questions, just looking for some answers as to what is going on here now.

Do we know if the Fox River Trail and Mountain Bay Trail would be included? I know that the Brown County section of the Mountain Bay Trail is maintained by county personnel. I am not sure which agency handles the Fox River Trail.

We are looking at heading up that direction Memorial Day weekend. 🙂 Undecided as to which hotel we’ll be staying at though and where. We are looking forward to caching and benchamrking in a new part of he state.

We vote for Fathers Day weekend but the following would work for us also. We can’t wait for winter to be done so we can head back up!

    Gotcha,

It would be nice if somebody was able to update/maintain the list. That would be a nice feature of the web site.

    Just my two cents worth.

    Don

P.S. Thanks for all the help!
