We changed 99% of our caches to PMO caches. And will be changing over our son’s as well. Great decision on our part. Far less traffic which means less maintenance runs for us. And it’s giving back to those who are willing to invest in this game instead of catering to all the “fly-by-night”, smartphone, or geomate cachers out there.
Is it a PITA for those who have families where everyone has their own account and not everyone is a premium member? Sure. We ran into this problem several times before we bought our son his own premium membership. If there’s one thing we’ve learned here is that cache owner wishes should be respected and everyone is not going to be able to find/log all those caches out there, so we see no problem excluding a certain percentage of people from finding/logging caches when we made them PMOs. That’s just the way the game is played.
I just spent the last four days sending emails to owners and resizing pictures for the logs of the 50-60 earthcaches (and virtuals) done in 10 different states over the last two weeks. Was it time consuming on my part? Absolutely, but on the flip side, I got to remember the places we’ve been too and what made them great. (Like nearly losing the cache printouts over the edge at the Grand Canyon).
I got an email reply from an Earthcache owner who I think sums it up nicely: ” Thanks again. We’ve met some great folks through our earthcaches.
They’re predictably the ones whose answers reflect continuing joy in learning more about our amazing, spectacular world.”CONGRATS On a super fun milestone!!!!! Definitely speaks to the journey and not the stats. *although the stats can be fun too!*
CONGRATS on the big 2000! Here’s wishing many more on the trail!
I believe the Bay-Lakes Council has GPSrs available for Scout units to use. Might be worth a call down there to see.

YUM YUM YUM!!!
You know we reached a sad state when the Cub Scouts had to introduce a belt loop and pin to teach about Manners!
The art of logging….it should be a requirement class before anyone is able to go caching.
I don’t understand, if cache finds aren’t worth more than 4 letters in a log or a cut and paste log, then why bother to find it in the first place.
I’m getting to know the names of those who don’t bother to leave more than 4 letters or do nothing but cut and paste logs. When I see a log in my email from any of them, I automatically hit the delete button. They’re not even worth my time to open up and read.
It’s amazing the transition this game has gone through over the years.
After five attempts he finally guessed Joe Flanigan! Poor dude was throwing out people I never heard of. 😆

when i do drop coins and TBs off in caches, I try to look at the cache history to see if things tend to be safe or walk away. Just because you find a container large enough for the trackable, it doesn’t mean it is a good place to put it. While an ammo box a mile down a deer trail also might be safe, trackables should be movers too, so it is hard to find a happy medium.
Isn’t that the truth! I had to mark 5 TBs/GCs missing from my Cache Across America cache today. Nice to know cachers still read the cache page – there are several notes not to put in TBs/GCs in this cache cause they regularily go MISSING!
I’m not the biggest fan of paper coins, but I do understand why it’s being done. Geocoins are expensive. I’d hate to lose a coin out in the wild, especially if I don’t have a spare to replace it with.
Nope, don’t intend to slow down the caching cause gas is going higher (where is the outrage like we saw last time it hit nearly $4/gal anyways?). Just like I don’t intent to stop eating cause food prices are going higher.
Bummer we gotta miss it this year….my brother is getting married that weekend. Enjoy all the beer drinking around the campfire!!!
I just hope that whatever form they take they don’t become “guard rail” types – one on every corner in meaningless locations that highlight/showcase nothing of worth.
Well pencil in the date! We had a blast last year!

The funniest thing to do is what ever the cookie says always add “in bed”. It can make things interesting.
we’ve been known to use “between the sheets” too……….
