Wow, thanks so much guys! To all those that voted for me, thank you. Also thank you to everyone that ran this year, if you didn’t make it on the board this year definitely try again. This year was my 3rd time running, so please stay involved.

    Thanks again,

I don’t think it would be out of the question for each board member to host a CITO in the name of the WGA.

If we make this a tradition, as the board membership rotates, so would the events. It also does not prevent us from continuing the established locations like the road cleanup.

Kind of stole my thunder, this was what I had in mind as well. I think the WGA should make resources available to individuals (board members and members) to do CITO in their local areas. The boots on the ground so to speak in the local areas are going to know far better what areas are in need of CITO and what areas are not.

First of all in the interest of full disclosure I haven’t really paid all that much attention to the cache of the month, just one of those things I never got around to doing. That being said I still think it is a good way to reward some of the better caches being placed in our state and would like to see it continue.

There are many avenues for helping the WGA to be a sucessful organization. For example, planning and hosting events is an important part of what the WGA does. Committees for membership, education, web site, geocoins as well as some temporary committees exist and are open to volunteers.

During the past year, how many WGA sponsored events did you attend? At which of those events, if any, were you able to volunteer to help make the event a success?

This past year I attended WGA Picnic, WGA Chili Feed, and the WGA Pancake Breakfast @ The West Bend Cache Bash, I volunteered at the Pancake Breakfast in West Bend.

During the past year, which, if any, of the WGA committee did you volunteer to work on?

I am currently a member of the website committee.

Feel free to elaborate on any of these questions.

In the past I have volunteered at numerous pancake breakfasts, WGA Highway Cleanups, and Caching 101 Classes.

In addition I have taught Geocaching at The Five-Star University of Scouting which was held at Lakeshore Technical College in 2011, and volunteered at the 2010 BayLakes Council Jamboree at the Geocaching activity which was held in Oshkosh. While volunteering at both of these events I actively promoted the WGA.

Welcome to the WGA! If you want to attend an event this weekend we are having one this weekend on Saturday here in Sheboygan http://coord.info/GC371DV. Would love to have you attend if you have a chance, always enjoy meeting new people. Anyway, don’t be shy most of us don’t bite, and the ones that do don’t bite all that hard. 😀

Ok, I have a tough question for you all:

With geocaching continuing the explosive rates of new cachers and new caches to find, what are your goals or ideas that WGA can do to help promote outdoor ethics while geocaching (except CITO)?

First of all I feel practicing leave no trace is really the responsibility of each individual cacher. I also feel that the WGA has a responsibility as an organization to promote leave no trace as much as possible. I would like to see having leave no trace perhaps taught at WGA events like the picnic and camp out. I of course do realize that with many this may be an up hill battle trying to change some minds and practices but continuing to promote the philosophy can only help in the long run.

Several members of the WGA have brought a idea or a request to your attention. What would you do as a board member to help these members see their idea thru to completion. What would do if you agree What would if.you do not agree with the idea or request. But these members have asked for some direction to have success with their idea or request.

Any ideas that are presented to me by the general membership I will bring up to the rest of the board for discussion. That being said the ground work for most projects or ideas will need to be carried out by the general membership. The BOD can certainly provide guidance, and perhaps other resources.

in reply to: WGA Promotion: Part 2 #1956211

In a perfect world WGA membership would be evenly spread throughout the state, with all areas having a roughly equal number of members. This is of course not the case, just as the population of Wisconsin is centered mostly in the SE part of the state it only follows that the majority of geocachers and therefore WGA members will be located in these areas of the state.

Promotion of the WGA in the far flung areas of the state is something best done by the people who live there and who understand those areas of the state. The WGA as an organization can help with resources perhaps but the ground work really needs to be carried out by someone on the ground in the those areas.

I would have to say that my strongest skill/ability is being able to listen. Many times communication (or lack their of) is the result of one or both parties not listening to what the other is saying. If you aren’t listening, you aren’t communicating effectively.

People who meet me for the first time probably think I’m quiet and shy, but the truth is I try to take the time to listen first before I state my opinion. So if I’m elected to the board don’t be surprised if at first I’m a bit on the quiet side, it only means that I’m listening, and pondering.

    1) During your 2 year term what would you personally like to see the WGA doing or heading too during your term?

    2) What kind of caches do you personail like to find: micro, traditional, puzzels. etc.

    1) Continue holding events in more areas of the state, I think our current way of doing this is working well.

Make continued efforts to promote the WGA among the geocaching community.

Look into the possibility of holding events in conjunction with other organizations (think West Bend Cache Bash).

    2) I like searching for all kinds of caches really. Not a huge fan of puzzle caches (don’t have the ability to do puzzles very well). I guess traditional caches would be the bulk of my finds, a mix of container sizes from nano to large ammo cans. I’m not too picky when it comes to my caches.

Here’s the deal. I’ve read your Candidates Corner postings. Some of you I know, some of you I don’t. Those of you I know, all would make fine BOD members. Those who I don’t, you all appear that you’d be fine BOD members. After all, you’re geocachers and WGA members, so you’re good people. 😀

So help me decide. You can vote for 6 people in the election. Tell me ONE of the people you would vote for, and why. I know it’s a tough question, so you can keep your other 5 votes a secret.

I think everyone running so far would make a fine BOD member, but after careful consideration I would have to say “Scrappy Scout” (Kevin Grant) will be getting one of my votes.

After spending a great deal of time with Kevin both caching, at events, and on a personal level, Kevin would make a great addition to the BOD. Kevin has great ideas, and is not afraid to do the work needed to get them going.

I feel that the WGA’s greatest asset is our people. We all come from different walks of life, have different views on all sorts of topics but this “sport” or hobby all gives us something in common.

The best way to promote the WGA and geocaching in general is for all of us as members of the WGA and the geocaching community in general to promote it in our day to day lives when the opportunity presents itself. One way I have tried to promote the WGA is to incorporate information into geocaching classes I have conducted for the BSA, especially classes I have conducted for leaders.

I’ve been very happy with cgeo on my phone. I’ve actually gone to using it pretty much all the time now and letting my better half use the “real” gps. I wouldn’t recommend using it all the time since the battery life isn’t the greatest but it works well for p&g’s and such.
