I still have some of those…
The big problem is getting the phone receiver to stay in the modem cradle long enough to keep the connection.
And it’s taking forever to get my work done today because this tape recorder is taking forever to load the data file.
Wow tape drives, now that’s a flash back!!

Looks fine on the iPad. Not so great on the TI99 4A, and it’s a compete mess on the Timex Sinclair.
Should see it on the Color Computer II !!!
Site looks great on my Android tablet!
We have done events for scouts in the Sheboygan area and were able to borrow gps units from the West Bend Rec Department. They were very simple units but good enough for a geocaching 101 type of situation.

Pulling garlic mustard didn’t take too long and it made a really positive impact at the park. We had two groups that came out, and after about 90 minutes this is the pile of garlic mustard we plucked from the ground:
Do we get the cool jumpsuits too?!?!?! 😯
This has been discussed at length here

It seems that over the past few years attendance to the WGA events have dwindled and as a result there is less participation in the board meetings which are open to members at these events. It seems that times of the meetings are at the least attended times of the events (example at the very end of the day around campfire where some don’t camp). To some it may appear that attendance is not desired due to the timing of the meetings.
1) Do you see this as in fact an accurate statement? (If not, do you have stats to support otherwise?)
I would agree that for the most part attendance at events does seem to be on the decline with the exception of what I would call “regulars” who seem to show up for everything.
2) As a board member how would you encourage more participation by members?
This can be a difficult thing to accomplish. Factors such as timing of the event, the current economic situation, location of the event, etc can have a great impact on the attendance of any given event. The best thing we can do from a BOD stand point is to make sure we are putting on the best possible event that we can to help draw our members to attend.
3) What suggestions can you make and encourage implementation of to increase participation thereby ensuring that members are being fully represented by the board elected?
The biggest thing we can do as a member of the board is to keep all channels of communication open. Be willing to listen to the membership and to not just blow people off because we may disagree with what their particular position on a topic may be.
Far to often I have gotten the impression from talking to a number of people that the lines of communication have not necessarily been the best between the BOD and the general membership. As a board member I would that it is imperative to listen to the people you are representing and take their views into consideration when making decisions.
Thank you for the opportunity to run for the BOD again this year. This is my second run and regardless of the outcome I look forward to serving the WGA in whatever capacity I can.
i am fully behind the use of empowered committees to help make the WGA better. I feel that committees are an excellent way to have the general membership both have a say in the inner workings of the WGA and it’s a way for them to give back to the WGA as well.
I am currently on the Web Committee, and West Bend Cache Bash Committees. As a member of the Web Committee I have helped with testing of the new website, had input into our move to a new web server, and have helped on other decisions both great and small.
No matter the outcome of the BOD election I plan to continue to support the WGA through serving on the committees I’m currently on as well as join others if I feel my talents can be useful.
Though a great number of people look at numbers found as being the most important thing when it comes to caching, I don’t really see it that way. You can have thousands upon thousands of finds but if they are all 1/1 caches do they really mean that much?
Being on the WGA board is more about leadership, and being able to work as a team to better the experience for our members. Be that planning awesome events, working with the WDNR, or any of the many things that the board does.
In the end it really isn’t about the numbers.
I have been to most every major WGA event (2010 Picnic my car died) and I plan to continue to do so regardless of me being on the board or not.
