Some changes I would like to see in the WGA would be:

    * More use of the various committees.

    * Take care of our adopted highway

    * Increased involvement by the general membership of the WGA

I agree we need to step up and get this done come the spring. Every time we drive on hwy 10 headed to Appleton I’ve been wondering about this. I would be happy to help with setting up a cito event to get this done.

I’ve posted several new pictures, some good, some ok, some…..well yeah it’s a learning thing. 🙂

in reply to: Should the WGA produce a 2010 geocoin? #1920576

I’m all for producing a WGA geocoin in 2010, the coins have been hugely popular both in and out of the WGA. I see no reason to not use the same design process we have in the past which has resulted in some very nicely designed coins.

I wasn’t sure how I wanted to answer this question when it was posted. I’ve been aware of people that have had a negative opinion of the WGA since I became a member of the WGA. In my opinion the #1 issue in disgruntled WGA members is a lack of communications on both sides. Without communication the issues that are making members or former members unhappy will never be resolved, and some issues even with good communication may never be resolved but at least the issues are aired and discussed.

Where do we go from here

It doesn’t have to be like this
All we need to do is make sure we keep talking”

in reply to: Playing Nice In The Forums #1920485

I would be reluctant to change the level of moderation that is currently being exercised in the forums. I’m a firm believer in free speech in all things, even if the result is some ruffled feathers.

With that being said I would hope that everyone in the forums would behave in a courteous manner and treat others with respect. My mom always told me to treat others the way you would like to be treated, and I think this is good advice for everyone when writing forums or in life in general.

I agree that some kind of rules of conduct would be useful for the forums, and I feel that the Utah Geocaching Association’s policy would be a very good starting point for the WGA to craft our own policy.

Events are an important part of what the WGA does, and Board members are generally expected to help work towards making the events successful. Last year, we held 4 events:

    May 2 WGA Wausau CITO
May 15 WGA Geo-Campout (High Cliff)
Aug 16 Pancakes and PJs in West Bend
Sep 19 WGA Geo-Picnic (Lake Wissota)

First question: How many of those 4 events did you attend?

Second question: At any one of those events, were you able to volunteer to make the event a success? Feel to elaborate and describe your efforts to make WGA events a success last year.

Third question: Do you plan on being able to attend most of the WGA events next year, and do you plan to be able to work at those events to make them a success?

Thank you answering this important question.

    1. We attended all but the CiTO event in Wausau.
    2. My wife, daughter, and I helped out at the pancake breakfast at the camp out, as well as the cache bash.
    3. I’ve already submitted vacation slips for all the events, so yes we plan on attending most if not all the events this year. I’ve also signed on to be on the camp out committee, so I will be helping with the camp out and I’m sure I will be helping out with the other events as well.

Be there with bells on. 🙂

in reply to: Kids and Caching. #1920362

I agree with many of the posts that the other candidates have made, with my kids now being older (17 and 19) I don’t have the pleasure of caching or camping with them very often anymore. As for younger kids, I feel that the WGA has made good efforts to include them in the fun.

Age appropriate games would be a possibility, perhaps nature hikes if that would be of interest. An educational type program could also be interesting, learning to use a map and compass would be one idea.

With each child having different interests and likes I can see it being a challenge to find activities for everyones kids, but I do think it’s something we need to work towards.

I love the picture with the ducks silhouetted in the sky. Awesome. You should keep the high res versions to sell in the future. What camera do you use? I also loved how clear the picture of the girl was and how realistic the colors were. My cheap camera takes nice pictures but the colors aren’t as nice. Your pictures look like the person is standing in front of you.

Thank you!! I save EVERY picture I take, even the bad ones. I have a Nikon D50 DSLR with 2 lenses, an 18-55mm and a 55mm-200mm. I also have several flash units as well as some studio lighting equipment (soft box, some home made large light setup’s etc…)

I know that some members feel that the WGA is skewed toward SE Wisconsin, and in some ways I can see their point. The majority of our members live in the SE of the state so do many of the current BOD. Past events have been for the most part located more south and east then anywhere else in the state. I feel that the BOD has done the best it can in this area, only so much can be done when most of the members live in the SE quarter of the state.

I love the idea. I’m also and amateur photographer and I might just have to try this myself. Of course, mine would be Project 351 🙂

Of course, there is nothing on it yet, but it’s the middle of the day and I’m at work, so it will be updated in about 5 hours 🙂

I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I’ve only been doing this for 14 days and it’s already starting to become a bit of a challenge to be original with my subject material. Good luck!!!

If a sack race had been held at the event and raffle tickets were given to everyone who participated, but you went off to hunt caches while the race was on, you wouldn’t expect to get a ticket and I bet no one would be complaining about it.

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. 🙄
