Way to go on the milestone and the completion of the series. 😀

I travel near the Wild Side caches all the time, but I still haven’t gotten around to “braving” them. Have to find a time when the little BakRdz offspring aren’t along for the ride and I have a few hours (…or days!)

I think it also has to do with the type of cache. I recently had someone complain in a log that they felt my coordinates were off by 35 feet for a P&R cache. The next two people went in “naked” and found it immediately…and one was a 6 y.o. kid!

While I do like cheetos and busses…

Before my days of GPS, I lugged around my trusty Gazetteer every trip (still do, but it’s a little more lonely). My motto was never go back the same way you came. I have a friend I’d 4-season camp with that I nicknamed Backwoods. Because of my “off the beaten path” driving, he started calling me Backroads. It stuck.

For caching, I shortened it to BakRdz to make it easier to write along with a date in some of those teeny tiny logs…especially after seeing how small some people have to write to cram a long name into a 1/4 inch space.

We have probably 20-30 different types of lights (beer mugs, duck calls, fish, horses, stars, cowboy boots) Solar lights, a light up palm tree and of course a solar powered flamingo! We know corney but it’s fun!

Growing up, our neighbor always called them “idiot lights,” but I suppose that wouldn’t make as good of a screen name. (We have mixed drink “idiot lights” for our camper.)

As a relative newbie, thought I’d chime in.

I have only put out a NM in 3 cases.
1 – The LOG was completely gone and I didn’t think I was allowed to replace it even if I had a log with me. I’ve since learned and now I travel with them and bags.
2 – The CACHE was gone, but found a log in a bag shoved in the hiding spot. Didn’t have a “spare cache.”
3 – Everything was gone. I knew it was gone. Others who found it before confirmed that it was gone. (…and because I was a VERY new newbie with only 40 finds at the time, I got a nasty email from the owner about how I shouldn’t have posted a NM. I tried to explain how I knew it was not there, but still don’t think he believed me. Took almost 2 more months of DNF’s for someone to finally archive it.)

In most cases if I’ve given it a good hunt and I’m relatively confident the cache is gone, I’ll still DNF it and explain that while I’m pretty sure I looked high and low in the right spot (especially for ** or under), it’s very likely that I may have missed it or my GPSr was sending me to the wrong spot. This way, the next person visiting (and the owner) at least has some notice it MIGHT be gone. Now that I’m getting to know more cachers, I sometimes contact one who has found it to confirm whether it’s missing – but that goes beyond the Newbie training.

And Crippler… TOTALLY agree with the moving a cache thing! I was raised by my momma to put things back where and HOW I found it. I have a cache that when placed into a split branch correctly, looks just like the branch. A geo-friend recently visited that cache and found it SIDEWAYS in the branch just waiting for some muggle to come along. He said he spotted it a mile away, but when he turned it the right way…MAGIC, it was nearly invisible! Did the person who jammed it in sideways just FORGET how it they found it in the few seconds it takes to open it and sign the log?!

Nice Job! Hit that one for my #200 as well. Lots of fun courtesy of Sagasu’s unique mind. Keep up the cachin’ and the cache placing!

I agree with jstajlr. Couldn’t have planned it better. Only wish we would have had a camera along to document the moment.

Still felt like it wasn’t “officially” complete for me, so I ran for the other 4 I hadn’t found yet early this AM. NOW…within 17 hours of being published, the entire series has really been completed! I know there are people who could, if they chose, do the whole thing in less time, but considering the time it published (5PM in the fall) and weather conditions (wet, wet, cold, and wet)…and the fact I personally was not prepared for a 10+ mile multi, I still feel pretty good about this.

Thanks for putting it out there. I look forward to hearing about other people’s experiences with it.

FYI – went back to the final to drop a TB. Didn’t see any drowned or blind rats then. Did see a cat not too far down the path. Maybe he had a snack. 😉

😀 Congrats Dave! Big time accomplishment.

Congrats! I was lucky enough to score the Cuckoo for a milestone as well. OK, it’s not 1700, but if I was excited at 300 to log this one, you must have been 5.6X more excited. Will we be seeing a #1700 celebration cache?

    in reply to: I did it… #1914669

Never thought I’d say this, but…what a loser. Don’t you have anything better to do than lead a productive life! I mean…there are Tupperware and ammo cans out there just waiting for someone to find them. Guess us newbees are just going to have to pick up the slack.

Glad you’re having so much fun. Congrats and Happy Birthday. too. (FYI- Mine is 9/29. Don’t think I’ll be hitting a milestone that day, but I’ll probably have to do some caching)javascript:emoticon(‘:D’)

Thanks everyone. As you all are very aware, this game can become SO addictive. Between spending time with my kids “searching out treasure” or breaking up a dull day with a little adventure, every cache I find inspires me to get out there and get more. And the positive feedback on my hides only motivates me to get more out there. I only wish I would have started all of this sooner.
