The great and powerful Wizard of OC has completed his spring maintenance on the Yellow Brick Road series. I ran into him while doing maintenance on my own Where the Wild Things Are series of caches. Together we have 45 caches along the Oconto River Trail. But, the Wiz announced that this year, 2017, will be his last season of maintaining his caches 🙁

It will be a sad day if the YBR series goes defunct
Probably our Fav Series ever! Thanks 🙂 I’d love to keep it going but 6 years of maintenance twice a year on 7+ miles of trail has gotten to be a bit much…and I was a lot younger back then…lol.

On another topic….those of you who are facebook friends with Trekkin’ may already have seen the photos he posted on facebook about our visit to the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum yesterday. We had a blast, like kids at an amusement park. History, airplanes, other aviation artifacts! As a result of our visit there, we learned a few other things when visiting my parents afterward and sharing our experiences, including the fact that one of Dad’s cousins married a cousin of Richard Bong. This was one of those experiences that is a true geocaching gem. I don’t think we’d have learned about this awesome location if not for the virtual placed there. GCJAHG This does require advance planning and the time to enjoy the tour. Had we already known of this site, we’d still have gone through the hoops to visit it, cache or not. I encourage anyone with an interest in history or aviation to give it a visit.
Now that is very cool! I’m not a military guy but I love history 🙂

I have just a couple more caches to find on that segment of the trail, and I gotta say it was memorable. Thanks for keeping it up. -The Happy Hodag!
Whew! The trail is mushy…not an easy bike ride. I’m pretty sure this is the last year I’m going to be keeping up the YBR.
I’ve been plotting with ILuvScience to be able to finish up the trail. I only have the offset and the final left, and she’s got a couple in the middle and the bunch on the east end of the trail. Are you planning on keeping Where The Wild Things Are up for a couple more years yet? -The Happy Hodag!
Maybe/probably. Keeping up regular maintenance on 80+ caches that aren’t p & g’s and scattered over a wide area has become a little too much. Wanna adopt some???

Am off to do some more cache maintenance today on the Yellow Brick Road…no sign of ticks yesterday. It’s good to get the bike out of the garage again 🙂

Here’s something you might try, Jim. I bought a Garmin touchscreen model from Cabela’s in Green Bay, cached with it for a week, and then returned it when I wasn’t satisfied. They have a great return policy. I know you don’t have a Cabela’s near you…but maybe Gander Mountain? Check their return policy first.

When my 62s died, I opted for the 64s over some of the touchscreen models. The external bumpout antenna was a big reason. It gives better satellite reception. The 64 also offers wireless sharing with other compatible units which I don’t do a lot of but, some individuals that go in groups, like. An important advantage to me is that it keeps field notes that you can download to your computer when logging caches. I also like the clip on it…I can hang it from a belt loop, etc. when I’m biking or hiking so my hands are free. It’s a little on the pricey side but if you keep your eyes open, they go on sale occasionally.

It will all be gone by the end of the weekend, one can only hope. Maybe in time for my event on Tuesday in Green Bay. -The Happy Hodag!
Will there be new caches published? Door prizes for attendees?
Isn’t it enough that they get to hang out with me? Okay, fine, the snow will be gone. I think I went through all my cache containers trying to make you happy for the Solstice event and you go for them a good two weeks before. I guess that will teach me how to work with the reviewers the next time I do something along those lines. I can’t guarantee anything new unless the shop owner next door get his back end in gear to put together that cache he’s been talking about for the past year to put by his front door. I won’t mention his name here, but his initials are Frizz. I’ll also claim post number 13 for this page. -The Happy Hodag!
Eat more peanut butter 🙂

This would be a great time of the year to go! There was a piece on the news recently that because of the rain they’ve had this winter, the desert is blooming like it hasn’t in years. Go for it!
