ks9wi asked me about taking him out there some time…maybe we could mount an expedition one day this summer, Chris. And I promise that you will get wet so don’t bring the Hodag along.

        One word, snowmocaching!

Yeah, but most of the caches are still not winter-friendly, Chris. If you’d like to do them in the summertime, I have a boat…much more fun. Hmmm…can you get to Shoot’s by water???

Hi, Becca. Welcome to “the hunt”. I use a Garmin GPSmap 62s. I can download caches/pocket queries directly from my computer as well as log my finds afterward on my computer. I bought it a couple of years ago…I think I paid around $300 for it. A number of cachers I know use the Garmin Oregon which has the same features but with a touch screen. They both allow paperless caching. I think they run about the same dollarwise but you need to shop around cuz prices vary. If you would like something a little less pricey, I’ve heard good things about the Garmin eTrex10 and 20. They both allow for paperless caching and run between $100-200. The 10 has a black/white screen while the 20 is in color. Check them out on the Garmin website.

I’m wondering if most of the folks that hang out here are veteran cachers that really don’t have many questions about caching, problems with their gps, etc. That’s why I originally started looking in the forums. And I actually found more help, in that respect, in the Groundspeak forums.

At the UW, there were four sophomores taking chemistry and all of them had an ‘A’ so far. These four friends were so confident that the weekend before finals, they decided to visit some friends and have a big party. They had a great time but, after all the hearty partying, they slept all day Sunday and didn’t make it back to Madison until early Monday morning. Rather than taking the final then, they decided that after the final they would explain to their professor why they missed it. They said that they visited friends but on the way back they had a flat tire. As a result, they missed the final. The professor agreed they could make up the final the next day. The guys were excited and relieved. They studied that night for the exam. The next day the Professor placed them in separate rooms and gave them a test booklet. They quickly answered the first problem worth 5 points. Cool, they thought! Each one in separate rooms, thought this was going to be easy … then they turned the page. On the second page was written…

For 95 points: Which tire? _________

                        A Wisconsin Poem

                        It’s winter in Wisconsin
                        And the gentle breezes blow
                        Seventy miles an hour
                        At thirty-five below.

                        Oh, how I love Wisconsin
When the snow’s up to your butt.
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I’ll hang around.
                        I could never leave Wisconsin
Cuz I’m frozen to the ground!

With the holidays upon us I would like to share a personal experience with you about drinking and driving after a “social session” with friends. Well, this past weekend I had a few cocktails followed by a handful of glasses of vintage red wine. Despite the jolliness, I still had the sense to know that I was over the limit. That’s when I decided to do what I have never done before…I took a cab home. Sure enough, there was a police road block on the freeway but, since it was a cab, they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident. This was both a great relief and surprise because I had never driven a cab before. I don’t even know where I got it from and, now that it is in my garage, I don’t know what to do with it 8)

Thanks, Mr. GT…I try to please.:D Since NE WI is my comfort zone, I haven’t experienced some of these other cachers’ hides. Because I’m visiting my daughter and her family currently over the holidays though, I’m reminded of an area cacher here around Hudson, River Falls, etc. who’s inspired my imagination…Spike 007. When the grandsons are napping I try to be sure I’ve got some of his caches loaded in the gps and sneak out to search for them…Chris’s containers and locations never fail to disappoint.
Another cacher that I’ve heard great things about is Woodcarver Dan in the Rhinelander area. I understand he has created some unique and awesome caches…gotta get over that way some day and check them out.
