Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
Debby, We’re spending the month in Natchez MS. Cold front moved through this afternoon after a really humid and warm day. Maybe that’s why you didn’t see it. But your other assessment regarding Trekkin’ feeling cooped up….that’s about right on! We’re going slowly with leaving the dog behind. There’s this BBQ place around the corner that has top ratings and smells SO good. Hopefully I don’t have to cook tomorrow night!
Mardi Gras is a big deal here, we’re learning. We need to pick up some door decorations or something…there’s a big display when you head into Wally World (no Target). We’re seeing them all around town, like Christmas lights. They have a Krewe and there’s a parade later this month. Probably not as wild as the one in NOLA, but it will be a new experience for us!
It’s been chilly here on “the Island”…only 49 yesterday and I heard the northern part of the state actually got hit by a snowstorm. It’s bright and sunny again today though.
They have a “Barefoot Mardi Gras Parade” on our beach Feb. 22…I’ve collected lots of beads the last couple of years…they make great swag 🙂Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
Almost donated a boot on our 4 1/2 hour Expedition!
Man, I’m sore all over…
I know what you mean… almost lost a sandal on the beach today 🙂

Last night I had my first dream about forgetting to pack something for our month down south. We leave early Friday morning….I think that shows some good subconscious restraint on my part!
Don’t forget bug repellant…and sunscreen 🙂
And sunglasses 🙂

I moved a bunch of tb’s that I rescued from the snow and cold of WI to the warm sunny climes of a Gulf coast tb hotel yesterday 🙂 Now if only my racer would make a big move.

Well, that’s not nice! If you’re going to be that way, I may have to post the temps here every day…80 🙂

I’ve been asked a number of times too…but have/had a number of valid reasons not to run. Sorry 🙁
On a brighter side…I found out in the newsletter that I’m very nice… and it was 68 degrees today 🙂Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
Mine shows 10 users. I haven’t had any issues having to log in every time…I have a new laptop though. Could that have something to do with it? The old one ran Internet Explorer…ugh!

But we’re heading to TX again next week…will have to monitor from afar.
Safe travels to you…and what a mess in Oconto. Has anything like this happened there in the past?
Thanks. Am looking forward to warmer weather 🙂
Oconto has experienced a number of floods in the past with the last major flood in ’86 but it was always in the spring…never at this time of year. Mother Nature has changed her tactics.Oconto...the birthplace of western civilization:)
It’s been about a year and half, for various reasons, since I worked as a construction volunteer with Habitat. They have a huge salvage project the next couple weeks and I just signed up for some hours with that. I’ll see how things go; maybe I’ll get back on one of the construction crews again.
This was an interesting observation by Jim. I tend to agree.
It’s been an interesting week in Oconto. The city has brought in a barge with a large crane on to break up the ice clogging up the lower river and creating the ice jams that caused the flooding. The problem is that the bay is frozen and there’s no place for the ice flows to go…am not sure that the plan is going to work. And it could be an even more interesting spring with the high water on the bay and lake.

Happy New Year 🙂

Extensive flooding in Oconto overnight…quite a few streets closed, basements flooded, and even some evacuations. But I’m high and dry…yay! The town’s going to be a skating rink when it all freezes again though.
