There is also a bookmark list of all of the caches one the main page and mine for sure, at least I remember making one…. 😕

Ah yes, there are bookmarks on the page. Sort of sticks out like a sore thumb now. Thanks for the info, Miata.

As long as this is about cache series, I have a question. I was looking at the A Honey of a Cache http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=329753 series. I’ve found some of the caches needed (but never wrote down the codes 🙁 , so the ones I can, I’ll have to revisit), but one of the cache owners listed as having a honey cache is Taxman. I did a search using that name and came up with nothing. I tried Tax-man, Tax_man, -Taxman-, …still nothing. It seems this Taxman doesn’t exist 😯 Is there a special way to spell the name that I’m missing?

Also, I know that Bit O’Honey was archived. Having not written down the codes, I don’t know if the cache can be found without these missing numbers/letters and if not, will there be another cache placed or used to get those codes back in circulation?

I put GC1XN32 (Petersen Park) on my watchlist. If I get the chance, I’d love to take a crack at it. Probably not this weekend but before the snow falls.

As long as the cache is rated correctly, I don’t see any overwhelming need for a hint. A person seeking this cache should be able to determine that a three star difficulty isn’t going to just jump out at them like a one or even two star cache might. As gotta run has said…let this one simmer awhile and see how many repeat DNF’s you get. If cachers are routinely getting stumped, then think up something cryptic.

I initially voted “yes” but that was from a standpoint that I didn’t really see the value of a roundabout hide, especially when you add in the potential danger of getting to the hide. But, as more roundabouts spring up, I’ve noticed that they’ve gone from just circular patches of ground (at least most of the first ones I recall in the area were just that), to being small flower beds and gardens with sidewalks and benches. Someone is responsible to maintain these flowers/gardens, right? So, if the city that built this roundabout also included planting flowers, adding sidewalks and benches, thereby not only inviting pedestrian traffic, but requiring it…I don’t see a problem with a geocache being placed there. With permission of course 😯
So, I veto myself and vote “no” on banning.

I’ve had this coin for awhile now. It’s supposed to inspire me to visit more earthcaches, but so far, that hasn’t exactly happened. It’s still a beautiful coin.

Glad to hear about your first trackable. May it have a long career 😀

Maybe it will last 18 years too!

Unless of course you place it in a cache and then run back to take it out and keep it, then change your mind and put it back in a cache and …so on….

But after 18 seasons, it’ll have alot of caches to its name.

I’ve definitely become jaded in regards to geocoins. I don’t buy alot of them, but the ones I do, I keep in my own collection. I’ve only released two into the wild and am sitting at 50/50 on those…one is moving, the other is gone. I just love the look of coins and can’t get past the thought that releasing them is just like throwing them away. Same goes for defacing a coin in hopes of deterring would-be thieves. I just can’t bring myself to do it. I wouldn’t say I’m done releasing coins. I like having other cachers discovering and moving them…but it’ll be some of the cheap-o coins that I release, not something that I would keep for my collection.

TB’s are a different story. I’m willing to release bugs without reservation. They tend to keep moving and pick up stories and spread the fun of moving trackables around to more cachers. I only have two out myself, but that’s only because I’ve focused on other things lately. I’m guessing that when the winter arrives, I’ll turn my attention back to travel bugs and get a few more released.

The Leopold Legacy caches are definitely worth checking out. I’ve only found a few of them myself, but I try to nab at least one every time I stay in Madison.

I’ve started a “KFC in the Valley” bookmark.

I actually thought about creating a bookmark list related to this recently when I did a very family friendly new multi-cache at plamann… great minds thinks alike!

Make sure you add the eternal question at plamann to your list. It’s a great KFC even if it’s not labeled as such.

You might want to name your bookmark list “Family Friendly caches of the valley” rather than KFC so people don’t have to guess what the list is about when they see it on a cache page… just a suggestion as not everyone knows what KFC means. They might think it’s a list of caches behind chicken shops… 😉

I think this is a great idea by the way!!

First off, I have to thank Marc for the note he posted to add the KFC tag to my cache. I usually lurk on the forum and have read this thread, but I didn’t think to ask about adding the tag until prompted.

When I placed the cache, I did it with the idea of it being a kid friendly cache in mind but I thought the KFC tag was “reserved” for owners who were placing caches in a KFC series. I didn’t realize the KFC tag could be used by anyone placing a kid/family friendly cache. If that’s cool, then I’ll change the title this weekend to include the KFC tag.

But, as anyone who has found The Eternal Question (GC1VHGE)
knows….maybe KFC does stand for a certain restaurant, in this case 😯
