Not sure how I missed this question earlier, sorry about that. Yes, I would like to be involved with the WGA. I think it’s a great organization and I’d love to be a part of it. I think that the WGA does a lot of good for geocachers around Wisconsin. One thing that I have tried to do myself is that when someone logs my caches that is new to the game I reach out and welcome them and offer them help or to answer questions. Being supportive can go a long way to helping players of the game learn the ropes and maintain the integrity of the rules and etiquette. I try to be friendly and encouraging with others as I know that I appreciated that when I was “learning the ropes”.

In truth, I’m not sure that I’m an expert on Leave No Trace policies. I would very much like to learn though as I love the outdoors and would like to see nature preserved as best as we can. But I did spend quite a lot of time my whole life out in nature and my parents raised me to be respectful of the environment. We were constantly out hiking, biking, boating, skiing, etc. and while we were out and about they’d be giving us tips on how to treat the world around us. I try to do the same with my own children or the children that are in my care.

In truth, I’m not always comfortable with controversy. I tend to be a peacemaker. I do have ideas of my own that I’ll happily put forward if the time would arise but I also am happy to compromise or help others come to an agreement.

Welcome to the WGA! Are you looking for geocaches on this website? This website is for a bunch of us Wisconsin Geocachers to discuss the many of aspects of geocaching around our state (among other things). If you want to find a geocache that is ready to be found you need to go to http://www.geocaching.com to look for the listings of geocaches hidden in your area. Good luck, maybe try the FAQ section on that website. Please feel free to ask more questions on getting started and I’m sure that many of the friendly geocachers on here can help you. Happy caching!

It’s taken me nearly 3 years to get to 1500, I’m not a power cacher. But I guess we’ll see…

Thank you everyone! This was my first real hike since getting pneumonia. I can’t believe how tired I was at the end and throughout the rest of the day. But I can’t complain, I couldn’t have done it at all a few weeks ago. This really was a great cache and I had fun with Scribble Scribe and Coco.

I think that the WGA’s biggest strength is that it is made up of members that are passionate about this hobby. At events people seem genuinely happy and really enjoy themselves. At my first WGA picnic I got there and realized that I’d forgotten plates for our family to eat on and some person that I’ve never met gave me some plates. I also was there without my husband and so someone helped me haul the canoe down to the water when I was going to take the kids out in it. The BOD needs to shoulder a lot of the responsibilities of running things but it also needs other volunteers to help out and I’ve seen a lot of people step up and help, even in small ways like giving me some plates.

Most of my logs are long enough to turn into some kind of article about geocaching in Wisconsin. Kelso has some great ideas listed there too! They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, what if from time to time there could be a “Seen while geocaching” photo with a story with it. I also like the idea of tips for newbies or even good reminders for those who have been doing this a while, like how/when/where to get permission for hiding. Also, occasional blurbs about site features like COTM or LCG would be nice, you never know when some newbie is going to wander on to the WGA site.

Big cats are so cool! I do prefer them at a reasonable distance though. This is another reason why we don’t let the kids walk in the woods alone when we’re up at our cabin. Well, that and the fact that we have 8 bears living on an 80 acre property.

I have had my eye on this one because I think I’m going to slowly start working on filling in my Jasmer challenge spots and this one would help me get there. GCAD90 It sounds like a lot of driving, which wouldn’t be the worst thing if it is as cold as it was last year! I’ve also had my eye on GC104VB for quite a while.
