Thanks everybody! It was such a great trip. And yes, it’s an amazing place.

Congratulations! And I like your photos, especially your 1500 photo. 🙂

Last summer I was caching just outside Tetons NP. I had just seen a black bear in the park earlier that morning. I was hiking by myself and had forgotten about making noise so I was kind of freaking out when I entered this area that had really high brush. I was bushwacking to get to the cache when a grouse or pheasant or something shot up about a foot or two away from me. I nearly had a heart attack! I’m pretty sure I shouted a few obsenities too. 😆 If anyone’s interested, it’s still one of my favorite caches: GC1516B

Wow, and here I was all impressed with my 42 EC’s and V’s in our week of vacation. But you’ve definately gotten me beat. It took me 5 days to log and upload photos. Very impressive AstroD-Team!

Ooh, that is so cool! I hadn’t even thought about that. We aren’t really into identification, just a mild interest. But an app would make that so handy. On our vacation we were carrying around a flower identification book and we were wishing we had one for birds. Interesting, I’ll have to see if I can get an app like that for my phone.

That sounds like fun! Next year I may take over the summer camp for our Y and geocaching will definately be on the agenda. Have a good time tomorrow!

I have had many people logging my EC’s again now that the weather is nicer. The week of the 4th I think I got a couple a day on my Hall of Mosses GC2DGQ2 EC. A few haven’t sent answers. One sent me answers that were completely wrong, like they guessed at them later. I asked if they could at least post a picture of them holding the GPS (I know it’s against the rules now but it would at least prove they were caching there). They uploaded a picture of a mushroom, no GPS. I guess I’ll let it go but it kind of bugs me. Do they know the hoops I had to jump through to get approval in a National Park?! It was a long process.

Congratulations! And that looks like a very interesting EC. I’d like to check that one out myself.

Thanks Team Deejay, I think that is a great way to rank them. I appreciate it. 🙂

Yea, you’re probably right. OK, I printed out a new paper an this time I included a SASE for good measure. Hopefully we can get this thing published soon. My son is getting anxious!

I got my Quartz and am nearly halfway to Mica. Boy, Garnet seems a long way off though. How about you Lostby, which level are you on?

Just my two cents. This may help the problem a bit but I’m not sure it would do too much. I personally became a premium member after only about 2 months of caching (if I remember correctly). I was self-taught so even though I was a PM I still didn’t know what I was doing, just that I liked geocaching. What has helped me the most learn the ins and outs of the game was having veteren cachers contact me and give me advice. And attending events where I got to have real conversations was very helpful. The advice that helped me the most was of course when it was done in a kind and helpful way, not condemning. I have really appreciated this. So I guess my suggestion for fixing the problems I have been reading about on the boards would be for experienced cachers to reach out to new ones and teach them the rules and etiquette. Maybe if someone logs your caches and they have a very small amount of found caches you could just shoot them a quick email to check in and see if they have any questions or need help. I think that some of this etquette is not being breached because of unreasonable people, it’s just that the consequences of certain behavior just didn’t occur to them in their limited experience. Also, just getting the word out about the WGA and all that it has to offer would be really helpful to new cachers. I saw the logo on cache pages but didn’t really know what it was until I’d been caching seriously for at least half a year. Anyway, just my opinion.
I’d also like to thank all of you who have reached out and helped me while I was learning the ropes. I think Mr. Greenthumb has helped me the most. Thanks Mr. G! I still have a lot to learn but maybe one day I’ll be a helpful veteren too!

Very cool! We started on the series about a month ago. Can’t wait to get out there and do some more. It may need to wait until the bugs calm down though because I got a lot of bites. Ugh! But I love the caches where you learn something and I’m a bit obsessed with the National Parks so I think this series is great! Nice to get the recognition for all the hard work put into the series too.

OK Sandlanders, I got them all logged FINALLY last night. It’s kind of funny, I now have only 3 less EarthCaches found in Wyoming than I do in Wisconsin! Not bad for 8 days in the state in the past year. I also bought a new camera right before our trip so I took tons of pictures and uploaded quite a few. And if you need any suggestions just let me know. 🙂

07/14/2011 at 8:14 pm in reply to: 2011 WGA Fall Picnic – Brunet Island State Park – Committee #1949074Is there an information page on this yet? We live in the Milwaukee area but we have land and a hunting shack up near Cornell so I’m hoping to go. I guess I’m a little hesitant to commit to helping though since it is so far away, just in case something would come up.
