The kids are off today. They are still sleeping.
Because of craphas? Or were they already scheduled to be off?
Oh the woes of the short geocacher!

If this guy had actually done that EarthCache, I’m pretty sure he’d remember it. It’s a fairly memorable location, silly man.

The boys are out of the house and my daughter has a fever and is sleeping. The house is so quiet!

Hmmm. My Recent Posts page doesn’t show new topics until someone writes a reply.
That’s the story! I had posted something earlier and it didn’t show up. I thought there was an error message with my phone or maybe the squirrel just didn’t like my post and chucked it. Now there’s a response and it’s showing up.

BigJim, seeing bald eagles out in the world is just always cool. I saw one on Friday morning too.

We spent the afternoon on a leisurely stroll in Kinnikinnick SP today with our family and dog. We had a blast! Now the teenagers and dog are asleep in the backseat as we drive home. 🙂

#1 – The WGA forums are so helpful for a variety of reasons. This is the place where announcements are made about events, calls for help, changes from the Frog, contests, etc. They’re also a great place to ask for help or find out information about WI regulations for geocaching.
#2 – Participating in WGA events is a lot of fun! I think the WGA puts on a good party and sometimes the banter beforehands in the forums is just as fun as the event itself. We have other activities as well, such as photo contests and our travel bug race.
#3 – Being involved with the WGA means that you are involved with a bunch of people living in your state with a similar interest. This is priceless! The WGA offers much and all without charging a membership fee.

I think that there are two ways that the WGA can help out with these sorts of situations. I think that the first place to start is by educating newer cachers, and possibly reminding older cachers, about geocaching etiquette. I remember when I was a newer cacher and certain things just didn’t occur to me because I was inexperienced. But by teaching Leave No Trace policies and general respect for private property and safety concerns we can help property owners in feeling confidant that geocaching isn’t a threat to their property. The second place would be for the WGA to act as a liaison between property owners (Dane County Parks, the DOT, etc.) and speak to them about their concerns and how we can come to some sort of an arrangement or agreement. The WI DNR had concerns years ago and the WGA came up with the form that is on the website now, maybe this is the solution for the mentioned problems.
As WA said, The Commander has been working closely with Dane County this year. I know that I have spoken with a few of the state parks when issues arose and smoothed things over in the past year. For example, the land manager at Lakeshore State Park had some concerns about the geocaches on his property and so I spoke with him and described where they were and about his preferences and then updated the WGA State Parks page accordingly.
I also would like to say that the WGA Board should lead by example and help as much as we can, but members can do these things as well. I have heard plenty of great stories of WGA members stepping up and being informative contacts to authorities in their area. This sort of thing is very helpful and productive for the game we all enjoy so much.

I’m so disappointed that my daughter’s basketball practice got rescheduled and now I can’t attend Cheezehead’s event this Sunday. Boo!
