Thanks for the great reminder. We were all newbies once and can remember what it’s like to walk up to an event where many people know each other and you don’t know anyone. It’s a nice reminder to reach out and make new friends.

Arghhhh! I just got down to planning the weekend and realized there’s no campground at Lapham Peak 😯 I’d always taken my camper to the fall picnics in past years…it made a great base for a couple of days of caching/camping…not sure what I’m going to do now 😕
Bartrod, I can help you figure out a place nearby to camp. I know it won’t be in the same park but it won’t be far away. There’s camping at Ottawa Lake in the Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit or at Naga-Waukee in the Waukesha County Park system. Can anyone else think of another place? I know, last year we camped at the Picnic and it was a blast, although cold.

I’ve heard that devil’s advocate story a time or two and it really surprises me. I haven’t been around that long and I’ve always had good experiences with the WGA. My first WGA event I only knew 2 people there, and I barely knew them! I had a bunch of people talk to me, a few gave me plates because I’d forgotten some, I cached with a few people I’d never met before. Anyway, it’s too bad if people are feeling that way. Anyone who is feeling out of place can feel free to come and talk to me.
Thanks for the update on how we move around the big events, Sandlanders. This year’s events were in the southern two quad’s so next year’s events will be in the northern quads.

Looks like the Wisconsin DNR is doing a new photo contest for fall. I believe it’s only on their Facebook page, but maybe not. Let’s get some geocaching pictures in there!

LOL!

I hid one last fall. I haven’t been out to visit it because there have been no reports of problems. But I am curious how it will hold up.

Hey John, could I cut and paste your post for the newsletter? Looks like a nice, thorough story.
As for how I organize my photos, I have folders for every month of the year. I dump photos on to the computer often so they just go into a folder named for the event into the monthly folder.

Where I live it’s not the newbies. It’s the people who have found everything in the area… They’ll constantly archive and relist caches with various different puzzles and nuances. The cache will remain often just long enough for them to pad each other’s FTF stats and then it’ll be archived in favor of a new one in the exact same spot or close to it..
That’s the reason! Being from Eau Claire and traveling back there on a regular basis, I would always download some caches to look for and those I didn’t find would remain on the GPS unit. Next time I would visit, no cache! 🙄
Well that’s frustrating to hear as someone who’s moving to Eau Claire.

I am moving to Eau Claire in a few weeks and haven’t found a job yet. I’ll contact you once I’ve gotten there.

I love photos! I’ve uploaded 2121 in my 4.5 years caching. Not too shabby. In fact, I think that I’m going to go and upload a few more right now…
Oh the woes of the short geocacher!
Well, unfortunately, I think people just do things because they can get away with it.

That’s funny, I have definitely had that problem before. 😆

LOL! That first one took me a minute. Ha! Oh boy, that second one looks like it could have been written by my daughter or any of the teenagers who don’t think that punctuation is at all necessary. I do love to get a long account of an experience looking for a cache but a good one or two sentences can be enjoyable too. 🙂
