The gang and I decided to head out to check out the groovy geocaching action in Shorewood today (Daphne digs the nanos). After an eventful day out in the sun and fun, we pulled the van into the local eatery. While Scoob and I are munching down a few triple decker tuna, peanut butter and jalapeno sandwiches, Fred and the girls overhear the locals talking about the disappearance of caches in the area. Also, there had been reports of mysterious noises and a green glow down by the old substation. Rumors were beginning to circulate about a glowing green alien cache monster lurking about. Locals were getting scared and staying away from areas where caches were thought to be placed. Just as Scoob and I are about to move on to our main course, we hear those old familiar words that just make the hairs on the back of my neck bristle …“Gang … it looks like we’ve got a mystery on our hands”.
I’ve found that you can’t really be sure about the the difficulty/risk if you don’t at least show up and take a look at the terrain.
And that is part of the challenge in hiding caches. Sometimes I know full well how challenging the terrain will be and other times I am not sure.
But I do believe that the old motto “know your limits” is always wise to keep in mind. Me, I keep heading out in all kinds of weather in the hopes that I will stay active enough to keep semi-fit…

Sounds AWESOME! Congratulations to all the brave knights!
I have a friend in MD who is big into both the alternatives. I had a Terracaching membership at one time, but the review process was too hard to navigate and the caches were far away. It seems that a bunch of the Opencaching ones are virtuals based on the photos I get from DudleyGrunt.
Bottom line, the others aren’t worth the bother for me.
I have yet to complete this one and am so jealous! I can say this from experience – becca is THE BEST!
What?! You need a vacation after lending me a bike and caching with me all day?!
Holy frijoles! 5K! I may never get there! Excellent!
Found it! It finally came up for me. Sorry, but I will be in Baltimore for a family reunion.
I got that part. WHEN is it? Date/time?
When is it? I would love to help if I’m available!
I’m assuming you meant a link to the Amazing Race. http://coord.info/GC3BQ68
4 teams have raced so far. No one knows the standings until the final race is run. The suspense is killing some cachers, others are simply fatalistic about the whole thing. 😆
Well, it’s for teams of two, so there could be multiple geocaching teams, or a team and a support staff…I, however, will be part of the Fatalistic Four doing the Amazing Race geocaching challenge organized by Dr. Dolittle and Goldie Diggers on that day. (Wish us luck!)
Most caches don’t have that high a visitor rate to greatly increase the spread of invasives or contribute to erosion due to geo-trails, etc. IMHO these are all bogus arguments, but I really can’t figure out the logic. Perhaps it makes it easier for the managing groups. If they ban all caches, then they don’t have to use the time to decide if a cache is in an OK spot or not.
So, thanks to the park and nature areas that still allow us to cache AND enjoy them!
whoopa$$, unless you prefer
