Gee, Russ, a bit heavy on the pedal, huh?

Or was this in a kayak?

I thought it might be worth pointing out that the second Saturday in May is the WGA Campout.

Many thanks to Tie, Bill, Becky, Jeff, Russ, Anne and Katrina for running and especially for taking the time to answer all the questions and tell us about yourselves and your ideas. I know it was time consuming. You did present some great ideas for all of us to consider.

Thank you to the 100 members that took the time to read the candidates responses and vote. It was a tough decision for all of us since all the nominees would have been great on the board. I hope you all consider running again.

And, congratulations to the winners. I look forward to working with you all for the next year.

            EDIT: YES
            DELETE: NO

(Comment at the risk of being deleted. I think people should be able to delete their posts – not threads. However, being able to edit essentially allows deletion because one could delete all content and just the empty post remains. This way, those of us approaching really old age, or at least acting like it (this includes me), would at least have some indicator that they really *had* read a post by that person and it wasn’t just their imaginations.)

For a real cache (not an event temp cache) I take multiple readings over multiple days, if I can. On each particular day, each reading is separated by turning off/on the GPSr and letting it reacquire the satellites in a clear area before taking a reading at the cache again. I do at least three sets and throw out data that seems way off. I am also fortunate enough to be able to use multiple GPSrs so if I need the coords quickly, I take multiple readings at the same time with different GPSrs.

I top that off with a real hint.

But this is how *I* do it. I like to use the hint only if I need to. Therefore, I like to have the hint mean something. Others geocache differently so they have different opinions about hints.

(Edited because I forgot to add…) I also send my husband out with the coords to look for it.

The following comments are made as a WGA member, not as a member of the bod.

I think there are two types of deletion. One is the ability to delete your own posts, the other is the ability to delete an entire thread. In my opinion I think each person should have the ability to delete their own posts. However, I don’t think people should have the right to delete an entire thread/subject without the permission of all those who have responded.

My response, and I believe Tie’s, was directed toward The Tapps’ questions about the officers. Please do not assume that my response about the officers was in any way related to your opinions about the elections.

Thanks for that link, Ken. I really like the events map.

According to the WGA Bylaws, “Officers are members of the Board of Directors and are appointed by the Board.”

The election is a general election to appoint four (this year) board members. It just happens that three of the four board positions being filled this year are current officers. That does not mean that three of the persons voted in this year will take on those positions. Existing board members may have an interest in holding those positions as well, but they are not up for election. At the first meeting of the new board, the nine board members will vote for the officer positions to allow all board members an opportunity to take on officer responsibilities, if desired.

Hope this helps explain it a bit.

I know you didn’t ask me, but I’ll give my experiences with PVC. The 40+ Presidents series caches in the Eau Claire/Menomonie area were originally PVC using the threads on the outside of the pipe. The problems we’ve seen have been frozen lids due to moisture on the threads when sealed, stuck due to pine sap on the threads, sealed so tight that some people can’t open, not sealed well enough so they leak. Our replacements, since adopting the series, have used the threads on the inside. If tightened securely enough to keep out moisture, they tend to be very difficult to open because there isn’t much to get a grip on. I am currently looking for another type of replacement.

Another problem with these types of containers is that if they look very suspicious to non-geocachers. One was confiscated by police and, I recently found out, another was blown up by the police.

I wouldn’t count on Rock n Serve for two main reasons. I have them in my kitchen and a number of them have cracked and/or broken. Also, if my spouse is an example, some people just cannot seem to seal them back correctly.

And then you’ll have to start a forum topic on how to remove duct tape adhesive from your window.

Well, I think the best part of Natloh’s trip this weekend was that he made a point of cutting short his geocaching (after the counties were added, of course) to join us for an event in Chippewa Falls. It was great to have two geocachers from the southern areas at our Western Wisconsin Lunch Bunch. Thanks for coming, Alan, and congrats on the milestone!
