Not necessarily, but we have a bunch of decon containers that can be used. Coordinate with arcangl7.
I don’t know how many caches we’re planning on placing. We will have permission for them.

A look through an Oriental Trading catalog shows lots of cool, useless things that kids love. We’ve left whoopie cushions, maze puzzles, puzzle balls, butterfly necklaces, magic shoelaces, and lots more I can’t remember. Zcards are cool – plastic cards with pieces you punch out to build a plane, car, dinosaur. These are nice because they are flat and fit in a lot of caches. Glow sticks are popular, too. For adults I’ve left filled Subway cards (but not for long – they will be discontinued in June), drink tickets for my local tavern (good for anything, not just alcohol), batteries, Where’s George dollar when I didn’t plan ahead, Leinenkugel stuff (dart flights, openers, magnets), can coolers, fishing bobbers, packaged fishing lures.

I did cache maintenance on one of mine and found a plain white plastic spoon. The person that left it even mentioned it in the log. They took out a decent toy and left “a spoon and a penny”. I guess they thought they were following the “take something, leave something rule”.

Whats the official hotel/motel/B&B/bnb? of the 2005 campout?
Well, I’m the official bnb. As to the others, I don’t know what Trudy has chosen but I mentioned some in another thread.

For Trudy camping, there are motels in Chippewa Falls and I saw a sign for a B&B a couple of miles from the park entrance – more expensive than the motels in town, though.

The motel actually closest to the park is not a standard chain-type motel, I suspect. I’d have to look up distances to know for certain. There are some old fashioned types of motels at the north end of Chippewa Falls (Glen Loch Motel, Edelweiss Motel) but I don’t know anything about their quality. There are some chain motels on the south side of Chippewa Falls (AmericInn, Country Inn, Park Inn) that really aren’t that much further of a drive – especially if you take the bypass around the city. (Yes, a bypass around a 13,000 pop city. The rush hour in Chippewa lasts for at least 10 minutes or so.) There are also a few Bed & Breakfast’s in the area, but my guess is that they are the most expensive places.
Distances from the park entrance to:
- convenience store: 3.6 miles
- great pizza: 5.4 miles
- Leinenkugel Brewery: 6.5 miles
- Latte/mocha/good coffee: 6.8 miles
- grocery store: 7.1 miles
- hospital: probably around 3.5 miles. I didn’t measure it, but it is same general area as convenience store.
I’d be happy to provide actual coords for anything someone is interested in. – Ruth

There is no park store. The closest convenience store is not far away – I thought I posted a list of distances but maybe that was to the planners back in January before I was one of them. I’ll look for that list and post it.

Congratulations, Miata! You show great perseverence, along with your knowledge of geocaching lore and a great ability to get info from the web.
Thanks, again, to Russ. I enjoyed it while I played and I enjoyed watching the competition even after I dropped out.
Being so close to MN (Colfax area) I, too, read both WGA and MNGCA forums. Glad to have you with us here. Did you attend the MNGCA campout up north last fall? I hope you can join us down here in Chippewa in May. – BnB
I didn’t realize the second sticker for the same household was cheaper. If one already has theirs, how do you go about getting the second one cheaper?

One thing about the area, everyone has a golf cart! Seems like hiking is not the thing to do.
I have a friend that lives in Peachtree City. The nice thing about those golf carts is not that it cuts down on walking, but on driving their cars. The parks, grocery stores and other shopping places are connected by a series of trails that are used by pedestrians, bikes and golf carts. I was impressed! (But not enough to move to Georgia.)

Hmmm. It might not be a good idea to wear that t-shirt to the campout this year, okay?

No matter what model they ultimately choose. If there is a Gander Mountain nearby, they will match ANY competitors price. Search the web for the cheapest price, print a copy of the model and price. Take it in and they will match it.
I had a problem with my local Gander Mountain when the competitor with the online cheaper price had an actual store in the area. They called them up and since that particular store didn’t have the item in stock, Gander Mountain wouldn’t match the sale price.
I’m sure this unit would suffice, but it really depends upon what they’re planning on teaching. If they don’t need maps, why spend the extra money on anything beyond the most basic – around $100 – model? I’m thinking of the Garmin Geko 101 or the Magellan Explorist 100.
