Having been part of this last year, I know very well the effort the cache hiders put into this. Any frustration I may have with the organization of this contest has nothing to do with the cache hiders. I know how much time and effort it takes to not only hide caches for this contest but to also maintain them as many, many people visit them in a very short period of time. (And, this is one of the reasons I did not participate this year.) Think about the possibility of 1500 people visiting your cache in a two month time period.
Unfortunately for Kent, he is the visible and accessible entity. The CVB organizers are fairly immune to comment since there really isn’t a good way to give them feedback.
Thank you, Kent, Tasmadudes, J+j, El B, Bobcatw98, WI_Robin, GeoBokie, Lil’ Geocacher, Mama Kat, Jolly Giants, Jenhen, Jim1830, zuma, Goodmarl & the Sparrows, and LouMag for taking the effort of hiding and maintaining these caches.

I’m not complaining, I’m just curious if this means that cache series are no longer eligilble for COM. The CVB caches – at least those listed on gc.com – *are* permanent.
Which “event” are you referring to? The final event never happened. Are you referring to the CITO event held by WI_Robin or just all the CVB caches as a series?
I never even saw it mentioned on the CVB website. Kind of hard to get people interested in something if you don’t make much of an effort to let them know about it.
If the only thing that is bothering you is download capability, there are many inexpensive GPSrs that can do that. Even the cheapest yellow Garmin eTrex can do that.
Sorry I can’t help here. I already had my bike and park passes, didn’t buy gas and I bought my beer in Stevens Point. Since I came in from the west I never passed a business in Waupaca Co.
GeoPink, back in April you said you could post the membership of the committees. Did you do that somewhere and I missed it?
It is only a single day for those people lucky enough to be within reasonable single-day driving distance.
Past picnics:
2001: Pike Lake State Park – Not a WGA event – SE Wisconsin Picnic & Hunt – hosted by some “oldtimers” 🙂 (kbraband, GrouseTales, jvechinski, YawningDog)
2002: Kettle Moraine Lapham Peak
2003: Devil’s Lake State Park
2004: Mackenzie Environmental Education Center – Poynette
2005: Kettle Moraine North – Greenbush
2006: Kettle Moraine SouthJust a warning to those doing tick checks. The wood ticks were easy to find (I only had one attached). However, when I did a quick face/hands wash at the family camp shower house before leaving I found a minuscule deer tick attached to my wrist under my watch. I just wanted people to know that the deer ticks were in attendance, too.

Considering the nightly campfire has pretty much been a non-event,
Russ, the past two campouts have had other factors interfere with the social aspects of the campfire. At Wissota, there were multiple fire rings around the group campsites which prompted people to have their own fire. At Peninsula, it was just too darned unpleasant out that night and the check-in area (where a number of people were socializing) was nowhere near the group of campers. On Sat night, people gathered at the fire at the shelter.
The last time we were at Hartman (2004) we had a large group of people around the one fire – probably because we were all freezing to death, but at least we were very social. I’m hoping it won’t be as cold as 2004, or as miserable as Peninsula.
I’m looking forward to a repeat of our last visit to Hartman – without the frost on my tent, of course.
Regarding the finale – is this the only place the CVB is advertising that? I may have missed it, but I didn’t see any information on it on their own website.
Thanks for the info!
This frilly person would like to know how far it is to a real latte. Not the Kwik Trip kind, but the real espresso/steamed milk kind. I can certainly survive without, but if one is close I just may find my way to it.
Thanks!
Ruth
Where are you located?
I know of at least one cacher that carries a snow brush with him into the woods. (I’m surprised it wasn’t on his list.) It could be hiding a very sharp point or knife at the end of the handle and hidden in the brush/scraper attachment.

Broken bottles (unfortunately, often available near caches) -
