I bought a RAM windshield mount for my 76CS and it works great, very sturdy.
The windshield and the suction cup need to be clean, otherwise it can let go. I also had to make a small modification to the carrier so that the power cable was easier to get in/out.
Isn’t there some sort of law in Minnesota that you cannot use a suction-cup mount?
It is now listed on geocaching.com: Intro to Geocaching – Northern Kettle Moraine
Thanks Wis-Kid!

I can be there to help if “a little” experience is ok.
“A Little” experience will work just fine. If you know how to push the right buttons on your GPSr to get it navigating to a waypoint, then you know how to follow the little arrow, that’s all that is required.
See you there!

Tie, you mention WGA…” This will be the fifth year running that the WGA has put on this presentation at the Ice Age Center. The people there have been very receptive to geocaching, and a good volunteer turnout would really help further that positive relationship. “
I (personally) have been a part of doing this presentation up until last year, when a pesky family reunion prevented me from making it. Team Deejay (as a fellow WGA member) graciously stepped in and covered for me. Is it an “official” WGA event? No. Has it always been put on by WGA members? Yes.

1) Will this event be listed on geocaching.com?
It would be my preference not to list it on geocaching.com. However, if I cannot round up enough help on these message boards, I will list it on gc.com to reach a wider audience.

Does that mean that the temp. caches will not be loggable?
….whatever floats your boat…. I won’t be deleting logs (if I post it on GC.com).
I use a Keyspan USA-19HS and I haven’t had anything that it wouldn’t work with.

Should look before sending in a topic… Missed the G in gas… if anyone with higher powers here can change that I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,

Gypsy moth nests are NOT the little 3D spider web looking things.

They are tan-brown semi-fuzzy looking masses, typically about the size of a couple of quarters, and maybe 1/4″ thick. I have found them on my house, on outbuildings and on trees on my property.
I’d like to thank everybody who helped make this event a success.
I’d like to put a special shout out to:
-Hotdogs Off Trail for donating the majority of the pancake breakfast supplies.
-Jeremy for donating all of the printed materials for the campout.
-Grousetales for donating Pancake Mix & MacGyver type support throughout the weekend.
-Everybody who helped with the pancake breakfast, temp cache hiding / pickup, night-cache placement / pickup. Thanks, it was a great event.

I also just turn off the compass on my Garmin… unless I need it to pull a compass heading or something and I don’t have my regular old compass with me…
Yup. Me too.
Added a few more pictures.
This is the picture from the *first* campout at Gov. Dodge:
It is interesting to see how much the trees grew in 5 years.
How about New Berlin..
I live there and there is some cool “Welcome To New Berlin” signs around which would work well for pictures.
05/04/2008 at 1:33 am in reply to: Discussion of not logging temps, starting with this event #1888624The WGA asks that this event be logged only once. The practice of multiple logging of temp caches is no longer condoned by the WGA or considered to be a good practice by much of the geocaching community.
In the past when there have been a ba-zillion “attended” logs at our WGA events, it really attracted the attention of the ankle-biters in the GC.com forums. I’m sure that many people simply dismiss them as loudmouth jerks sticking their noses into other people’s business.
However, I can say from personal experience, that the practice of logging our events the way we have done in the past is noticed by *many* people, not just the vocal loudmouths in the gc.com forums. I have gotten sideways comments and snide remarks from other reviewers over our logging practices. With that we loose credibility and further decrease our relevance to the greater geocaching community.
I’ve stopped logging multiple temps as many people have. Now, when the WGA gets bad press for the logging practices of a few, every member, regardless of their stand, gets the bad press.
Having the WGA disapprove of the multi-logging of events will hopefully accomplish two things. One, by reducing the number of “casual” multi-loggers, it will hopefully keep our events off of the ankle-biters radar screens. Two, it will allow the WGA to deflect any criticism of the WGA as a whole onto the people who are actually multi-logging the events.
I absolutely love bike-o-caching. I don’t need a geocache every 0.1 miles along a bike trail as an excuse to ride my bike down that trail. For me, one geocache somewhere on the trial (or one on both ends) is good enough.
As a matter of fact, the trail doesn’t even need to have *any* caches for me to enjoy a good bike ride, they are just a cool bonus when they are there.
P.S. I have a Trek 1000 aluminum (circa 1988) road bike that I haven’t ridden much lately, and a Trek 4000 something-or-other aluminum mountain bike (circa 2006).
Regarding the T-shirt logo choice…..
I can see how the whole logo / t-shirt situation may “look”. However, please let me assure everybody that the two contests (the T-shirt contest and the Logo contest) are in no way shape or form related to one-another. There will be a chance to vote on a new WGA logo, and all submitted logos (including the existing WGA logo) will be on the ballot.Although it crossed my mind, I didn’t think it would be appropriate to exclude somebody’s logo simply because it contained some artwork also involved in another unrelated contest. If the little “g” logo becomes the next WGA logo after the voting, then those with t-shirts will have gotten a bit of a head start. If the little “g” logo does NOT become the next WGA logo, then it can simply be part of the WGA Campout 2008 and nothing more.
There was no malice, and if T-shirt artwork was submitted with any of the other contestants artwork, it would have been included in the voting as well.
What’s holding up the voting on the new WGA logo you may ask? Let me start by stating that each thing the BOD does is usually spearheaded by one member. Just as I’ve spearheaded the T-shirts for the campout, others on the board have been spearheading other things, including the logo contest. When that person then has personal commitments, their projects have a way of getting put on the back-burner if the need isn’t too urgent. To add to that, all members of the BOD, including our webmaster, hold down full time jobs, have families and other non-geocaching commitments. Sometimes things just don’t happen as quickly as we would all like.
I’m truly sorry if the unfortunate timing and sequence of events has caused any trouble, but again I will assure everybody that there was no agenda or hidden meaning behind any of it.
Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.
