I think this is the one: Linkety-Link

in reply to: How do I set up a cache for adoption? #1880736

    Here’s what you do….

Have the owner of the cache go to: http://www.geocaching.com/adopt

There, they will be able to enter which cache and to whom it should go.

I believe an e-mail will then be auto-generated to the person that wants to adopt the cache with a link to complete the adoption.

I believe that’s all there is to it (although I’ve never done it myself).

I have posted the sale on the national forums:

    http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=176611

For those of you who frequent those forums, if you find that it is down a bit on the list, bump it to bring it to the top.

I went back and looked at the quote, and it looks like there will be a custom icon for this coin. I don’t know what it will look like yet.

They are not allowed under any circumstances, no if, ands, or buts.

Any updates on when they are going to be avialable?

All I can say is, soon. Our little server problem over the last two days set us back a bit, but our plan right now is to have them ordered & delivered in time so they can be given as Christmas gifts.

    (this year) 😉

If you do decide to go for these caches, let me know, I’d love to tag along (schedule permitting).

in reply to: Who’s watching my cache? #1880285

    Here’s what you can do….

Post a note on your cache page, asking for the people who are watching to respond. You can then delete the log from the page, but the e-mail notification will have already gone out.

If the person wants to be identified, they will e-mail you back. If they don’t want to be identified, then you won’t hear anything back.

in reply to: Cache Rescue #1880138

Anybody can submit a cache rescue mission.

Do you have a cache at your cabin, and you haven’t been able to make it up there to take care of it due to other obligations? Post a cache rescue and see if somebody more local can help out.

Did you find a cache out in the woods only later to find that it has been archived? Post a cache rescue mission.

You should still use “Should Be Archived” notes on the geocaching.com to bring broken or disabled caches to the attention of the reviewers, not the cache rescue system.

This is just a friendly reminder to keep the conversation civil.

    Thanks.

in reply to: Large ammo cans selling around Madison? #1879671

You might want to try to get a hold of “Hotdogs Off Trail”, as I know they had an absolutely JUMBO ammo can for sale at the last campout.

in reply to: When did Letterbox Hybrids come back into play? #1879172

… would a multi which is also based on landmarks (no tags and only one cache) follow this same 528 rule? That is, can I place a cache 20 feet away from a stage of a multi if the multis stage is just a landmark?

There are two types of waypoints associated with multi-caches, mystery caches and letterbox hybrids.

    1. Waypoint type “Question To Answer”. This type of waypoint would be a sign or a place where maybe you need to stand and count some items to come up with information that will lead you on to the next waypoint. These are considered “virtual” waypoints and the 528′ rule does not apply. So, your typical landmark would fall into this category.

    2. Waypoint type “Stages of Multi-cache”. This type of a waypoint would be a physical thing, say, maybe a container with co-ords inside, or a tag with some info on it. Because there is actually something at the location hidden by the owner for the purposes of the geocache, this type of waypoint does need to be 528′ away from any other physical waypoint or cache.

    I hope this helps.

in reply to: Calibrating issues with the GPSmap60 CSx??? #1879230

I’ve been using a Garmin with the built-in Magnetic compass now for almost 2 years. I find that I need to re-calibrate the compass every time I change batteries.

But, that aside, I turn the compass “off” when I am heading to the cache (during the hike). Once I get within 100 ft. or so, then I turn the Magnetic compass back on. That way I don’t have to hold the unit level for the whole hike to keep the compass working.

The magnetic compass can be turned on and off by pressing and holding the “Page” button on the 60CSx.

    Thanks for the feedback.

All of our dealings with this particular individual at the NPS has been very positive and helpful.
