I’ve had pretty good luck with this PDF writer (for Windows) too: Primo PDF.

Well said.
Me too.

I’ve noticed more of a problem from archived caches still hanging around in the woods than problems from disabled caches. I stumbled across 2 last week myself.
Can you provide me details on these two?
Where they archived by an admin, or by the cache owner?
If you don’t know the names of the caches, what were the (approx) co-ordinates?

…Note that I could easily reduce the “grace period” of three months in this list. When I first started this, the number of disabled caches was larger, so I arbitrarily set 3 months because it kept the number manageable for the approvers.
Ummmm. 3 months is not arbritary. See this posting.
Grousetales, they must not have liked anything you had to say. 😉

Our group’s intent is not to associate the geocaches with commercial enterprises. We intend to promote our area as a quality destination for geocaching, by improving the volume of quality geocaches in our three communities (maybe 5 or 6 each). The caches will be in traditional geocaching locations of various difficulty levels. The geocachers who find caches in our area may be treated to a discount coupon or Northwoods keepsake, along with his or her happy meal toys and nicked-up golf balls.
No problems there, just wanted to get in front of the problem of the geocache placed inside of the local souvenir store.
A word of caution….
The guidelines for geocaching.com state:
@Geocaching.com Guidelines wrote:
Commercial caches attempt to use the Geocaching.com web site cache reporting tool directly or indirectly (intentionally or non-intentionally) to solicit customers through a Geocaching.com listing. These are NOT permitted. Examples include for-profit locations that require an entrance fee, or locations that sell products or services.
If there are any questions about this, e-mail your local reviewer ([email protected]).
Under discussion by the BOD at this very moment. Stay tuned.
I’m not a big fan of PVC caches.
As you stated, there is always the pipe bomb factor.
Also, pipe threads (PVC or not) are tapered. This means that they have to be reasonably tight before they seal. To get them tight enough to seal well, tools are likely needed.
It is my understanding that the base map is always there, and that the Mapsource maps are loaded on top of it.
It is also my understanding with the Legend, that when you load Mapsource maps the first time you do overwrite some water navigation data. I know that Garmin had a download of that data on their site for a while. Unfortunately, I made a quick check and couldn’t find it.
P.S. I agree, auto-routing is really cool.
You could simply load one map, say somewhere out in the middle of Kansas, and all that would show up around here would be the base map.

I’ve never quite liked the way the required paragraph is structured, as it doesn’t transition from the cache description very smoothly. Although it makes perfect sense to an experienced cacher familiar with the lingo, it could misinterpreted by newcomers and those unfamiliar with the nuances of the English language to be part of instructions for seeking the cache.
Consider also that while the term “place” and it’s verb tenses have a specific meaning within the sport of geocaching, in the English language there are about thirty homonyms for these words. Perhaps “hiding” would be more clear.
I’ve modified the paragraph a bit for my caches: e.g. Black River Marsh
I know my code won’t work easily in various situations as the current paragraph does, and yes, I know that I’m nitpicking. I’m just bringing this up as a suggestion that we might consider clarifying the wording a bit.

That is a great way to get the same message across. Unfortunately, it requires the use of HTML on the cache page, and not everybody is comfortable with that. Maybe we could provide an “HTML” version and a “non-HTML” version.
We’ll have to think about that.
