I’ve done some night hunting, and I came across a combination that works really well for me. I also have one of those Aurora 3-L.E.D head lamps. I use this one to generally light the terrain in front of me (so I don’t fall down as much) and the cache itself when signing the log etc… I also carry a 4 D-Cell Maglite with me for when I am actually looking around for the cache. The 4 D-Cell Maglite also is quite hefty, and could be used not only for light but also for defense (if you know what I mean). You never know what you might come across at night in the woods. I’ve also found that adding a little anti-oxidant to the ends of the batteries in the Maglite keeps it working well all of the time. I use a product called No-Ox, although silicone grease would probably work well too.
Six states: WI,MI,IL,CA,MA,TX, and more coming soon (hopefully)
I just re-upped my premium membership using Pay-Pal, and it was virtually instantaneous.
Showing up at the Wisconsin Human Geocache would be a great idea… however…. if one doesn’t have a GPS, how is one going to find it without directions? Maybe our new cacher can contact Geoff and Sarah for more specific directions? It would be a great opportunity to find out what Geocaching is all about, and experience the camaraderie of fellow geocachers.
I’ve used my GPS on flights (even lately) and was told it was OK. It is quite interesting watching the ground go by, and know exactly what each of those little glowing blobs down on the ground. I even connected my GPS to my laptop, and watched that way (boy can I be a geek or what?). I was just on a flight last month (Midwest Express) and the flight attendants said it was OK.
Just drop me an E-mail and I can forward you the proper HTML to put that on your page. The image and the connected web site is actually part of my home page.
Thank you very much! I dragged the whole family out to find the 200th, we wanted it to be T&B’s very own “Diamond In The Rough”, but it prooved to “rough” for us. Instead we found a nearby cache to log our 200th at.
Mr. Beast… I totally agree with you that our team started in August. It’s just that your posting mentions something different.
Ummm…
August?
Just tried it out…
It works great!
Thanks.
Just curious…. Now that all 50 have been found, is there still going to be a 51st cache to hunt for all who complete all 50?
I found a most excellent cache “Just For The Halibut” NE of Boston. Beast, I would have to agree that I have never seen such messed up traffic / route to the airport. I love Wisconsin!
Okay… Now I feel like the Idiot I know I can be sometimes. It just takes a Beast to point it out.
After last year’s “Poker Dash for Cache” and several humongous blisters on my feet from old athletic shoes, I treated myself to a good pair of hiking boots. On recommendation of a co-worker I went to REI. The people there were very helpful, and they even have a place where you can walk on some very un-even terrain, which actually really helped pick out the right boots. Personally I settled on a pair made by “Lowa”, although the REI brand was a very close second. Hope this helps.
Okay, Okay, Okay…. I’ll leave it in (for now) I have been back to check it (even at night) and had to replace one reflector, so now everything should still be in place. The parking co-ords that I give allow hunters to bypass the park entrance and thus bypass the fee. It is just a little easier to hunt if you park inside of the park, and supporting these places isn’t a bad thing either. I’m also thinking of doing another one, bigger, better, and longer, probably in the same park. Whew!
