I have done some caches on bike. As long as they are not every 528ft and I am constantly on and off and on and off and… well you get it LOL
I did start a couple of Hike & Bike caches on the trail bookmarks and listed them here, on the WGA Bookmark lists. As I find more trails with a fair amount on them, I hope to be creating more.
I drive a Univega multi-terrain touring bike. Nice mid-width tire, upright handlbars and a fairly comfy seat….though on our 48 mile ride last yr, my butt was still feeling it. LOL I have a bracket for my older Magellan SporTrak Pro, but need one for my newer Megallen eXplorist.

IF Groundspeak would back, then I would say “Go for It”
I am also with LB7, comparing Apples to Apples would be nice. Otherwise, I feel, to Each His Own, if it were supported by Groundspeak, to log if you want.
I spent a lot of time searching events in other states and countries and came up empty with anyone (State/Country) logging multiples. It’s not like we are on a remote island with few caches and have no other way to increase our numbers.
BUT….I’m still sitting on the fence…watching, listening and learning! 🙂
What is the status on the Campsites????
Is there any more room???? If so, for how many??
I’m not sure if I have my old one here. I’ll take a look around! I’ve moved twice and lost a few things LOL
Sure…. toss the Idea over!! 🙂
Welcome welcome!! Glad you stopped by to say HI. Feel free to converse, ask questions, etc., anytime.
As for easy caches in the Wausau area, when you do a search, just remember to look at the Difficulty & Terrain ratings (or D/T as we affectionately type) which is located at the top of the cache page, centered: 1 star, 1.5 stars and 2 stars should be easy enough. 🙂 Also…look at the Container size, which is located next to the ratings. Choose ones which are small or regular. Once you get the hang of those, you will soon an addict to the Micros and Nanos and the other creative containers. LOL
If you are a premium member you can choose run a pocket query and have it search out those specifically in the 1-2 D/T range.
OR as a Regular (free) member or Premium member, you can go to the Geocaching.com Home page, look to the left and click on “Hide & Seek a Cache”. Once you have clicked on that, on that new page at the very top, is a box that says “By Adrress”. Type in “Wausau, WI” and click “GO”. That will give you a listing of caches, most likely starting at the center of town and spiraling out.
It lists, in order across the row:
- Distance
Type of cache – traditional, multi, mystery, etc.
D/T – which sits atop the cache container size
Date placed
Name of the cache
Date last foundNow you can easily look down the page and go page to page to see what easier ones are out there.
Hope that helps!!

I’m there for the camaraderie….don’t really care about the caches!! Temps or perms…ok…. maybe an earthcache LOL I do enjoy hiding temps for those who hunt them. 🙂 Otherwise…..I just like getting away with good friends who have a common interest and listening to all the stories!! Sure, it costs a few bucks, but friendships and memories are pricelss!!!
{Would like to commit to hiding, but not sure if I need to be up Nord with Mom, working on the Vacation Hutch. Hope to know soon!}
There are variables for signal strength in general.
Like the location of satellites in the sky – how low or how high
There are natures variablies:
- Tree Coverage
Cloud coverage
In a valley vs
On a mountainThen I would say there is the GPS itself. I have seen some lower priced ones get great reception. I don’t know if one could really tell when buying one…. if it is listed in the literature???
I have a Megellan eXplorist 500 and for the most part it is very accurate. I have even picked up satellites while indoors. I do find that battery strength does reek havoc at times. Otherwise…..it seems more like heavy clouds or satellites position. My accuracy seems to usually run from maybe 5ft to as much at 40ft. Lets just say that I opt NOT to hide caches on days with 40ft accuracy, nor do I attempt to look for a nano in the woods. LOL[/list]
My oddest experience was while placing temps at Veterens Falls Park up near Crivitz. I was in the valley and couldn’t pick up any signal, but my darn cellphone rang thru. That day, it took over 45 minutes to get any signal on the GPS at all. when I got how, I chatted with a guy at work, just happened to be up North that same weekend and they were out on ATV’s getting no reception for about 45 min , also. Sooooo….I knew it wasn’t jsut mine. 🙂

If you have not looked at this feature recently, there have been some updates.
If you know of a Bookmark List you would like to see posted, but are not sure how to do so, just post a note here. Someone can take care of it for you.
I have added 3 more to the “Trails” list!!

Ok….I vote for that one over mine!! I don’t do graphics and just found the t-shirt making thingy online. After looking t your profile jacey7487, now I know your secret!! 😉 Hey… use my encrypted code on the back….that would be cool! LOL Hmmmm…maybe I should hire out next year!!
Can I steal your encryption idea too? 😀
Sure.. what the heck. I got it off a bumper sticker!! LOL
Maybe someone can adopt a Bookmark. Not sure how one would do that, but if there are people how don’t create them but willing to babysit them, that might work.
Great job! Nice to see some new caching IDs up and coming.
Boy.. I’m slowing down and better get moving……darn Earthcache addiction LOL 😆

I think most are pretty straight forward LB7…unless you get to some in Illinois. That one we did, Illinois’s Highest Point drove us nuts. It was like he wanted us to do stuff we couldn’t do, except on 4 specific dates on the year. It was more frustrating that anything. This one would probably drive Newbie ECers from doing anymore.
I don’t see any problems with owning EC’s not within home territory. There are so may places we all may come across that few know about. What better way to bring others to see what you have seen.
As LB7 mentions, making it clear on what they need to do is a must, but I don’t see that as a problem with a distance EC, since we don’t need to be close by for monitoring. Whether 5 miles or 500 miles from your owned EC, either they do it right or they get deleted. Distance isn’t an issue.
Go for it Ralph!!
I know for the longest time, there were none in WY and the entire state of WY is an EC. LOL TerryDad2 and Me & Bucky have been doing a great job of getting EC’s started out there. TerryDad2 is a geologist out of CO. He has some great EC’s which we visited on out trip out West.
